Wouldn't matter to me but at the VA clinic I volunteer at a patient refused to see a doctor because of that doctors religion.

i could give a damn what they practice on their own time, as long as they know their medical science without religious prejudice when it comes to my health

I would like to say no, but it might matter.

For instance, a friend of mine was close to 7 months pregnant, she went in to see her obgyn and they could not find a heart beat. They did an ultra-sound, no heart beat. The fetus was dead.

This doctor was Catholic, and he refused to perform the procedure (abortion) to remove the fetus from her uterus. He fully expected her to carry a dead fetus, or baby if you'd like to term. Because it was against his religion.

So sometimes, it does indeed matter.

I worked in a catholic hospital many years ago and they also refused to abort the fetus even though it didn't have a heart beat, she had to transfer to a hospital in another city miles away to get the procedure.

I've never had any problem with this and I go to a VA. I worry more about the competence of the medical professional much much more than I ever worry about their personal beliefs.

As long as it doesn't affect his job, why should I care. Besides, I love my doctor. The man gives me life advice all the time.

Depends on the doctor. A GP? So long as s/he weren't atheist, prolly not. A surgeon, prolly a little bit. A psychiatrist? A lot. Why would I care at all? A person's religious weltanschauung speaks volumes about his/her personality, his/her approach to patient care, his/her sensitivity to a patient's fears, etc.

Religion would not matter. But let me tell a true story.

When my daughter was born we were taking her to a Pakistani pediatrician. One week after the birth the doctor asked my wife "how are you doing?" My wifes answer was "I'm doing fine, just a little pooped". Meaning she was tired after a week with a newborn. The doctors facial expression was that he had heard the American slang "poop" before but not meaning tired. We both noted it but said nothing. As we left the office we both turned to each other and said we need to find a different doctor.

The best doctor in the world is worthless if he cannot understand what you say and you struggle to understand his accent/speech. Has nothing to do with his religion or race, it was entirely about receiving the best medical care possible, communication is extremely important..

I'm a bit more concerned about the doctor's competence.

I've gone to Dr.s that are Indian, Pakistani, white...and otherwise...never had a problem and ended up with my problems taken care of.

Depends on the kind of doctor and what their religion is. e__o
I used to have a psycho-therapist that was christian, and she constantly brought up her views in our sessions. I just don't thing religion should be pulled into therapy, especially if the patient does not share the same views.

I went to see a doctor and when i asked him about his religion he said he was an atheist. I wrote a letter asking that he be removed from the list of referrals and they did and he also lost his practicing license.

    How cool is that?

where do you live in Texas that an atheist would lose his or her license for answering a question you asked about his religion? Nothing cool about someone losing their license for being an atheist. If what you say is true I'm ashamed. What is happening to the USA?

Good grief, no. I've had doctor's from all over the world poke and prod me. Why should I care what, if any, religious base they belong to? That's the height of foolishness. The Chinese have been using method for millennia that we only now are beginning to understand. Muslims invented cesarian section. Egyptians and Central Americans have prcticed (successfully) trepining (brain surgery) for centuries. Take what you get and be grateful.

At a VA clinic....yeah, I can see that happening.

Nor should you ever. But some veterans have issues with individuals from regions they served in.....oftentimes as a result of PTSD.

I have severe PTSD...have had it for over 40 years....but frankly... I tend to differentiate and have learned long ago that someones "ethnicity" does not necessarily make them a danger.

I often think that some of these guys that run around in camo...and act like they are nutcases....are trying a little too hard....

PTSD is a very complicated condition....and it does not require craziness to be there.

Rob, I'm a retired veterans representative - you're preaching to the choir. But I'm not talking about guys that run around in camo. I had WWII vets that would still spit on the ground if they saw a Japanese. Thanks for your service,l sorry about the PTSD. Severe....70%? Got unemp and upped to 100%?

I don't ask a doctor about his religion and I don't expect him to ask me about mine. The medical degree is what I want to see on his wall not how or if he worships God. But if he did try to treat me according to his religious teachings I would leave.

Yes, I would not want a doctor who's religion rejects medical and biological science, I am very fortunate to live in America, where the medical education and licensing system screens these individuals out. The rest of the world is adopting this system, too.

Shows how ignorant you are but then i already knew how ignorant you are. i just enjoy you posting proof of it.

You do know that public school spelling bee and math contests do not allow Home Schooled children (which are mostly made up of evangelical Christians) to participate because they win every contest hands down; it is embarrassing to the public school ''system.''
