Would Aretha Franklin Make a Good 'American Idol' Judge?

With her wisdom, she probably would. However, I think it's about time they cancelled the show because it's outlived its purpose.

She won't go for the drama and bs. She'll set them straight. And her with Patti.... the show would be amazing. I don't watch the show... but to hear what she and Patti have to say, I would.

I can use contractions quite effectively when needed. Since I declined to do so in my last comment you should have taken it to mean that I (the writer) was enjoying a moment of free speech and therefore using Ebonics as my form of self expression. Aight? Nah wha I sayin?

Aretha Franklin is a great singer, but I don't think she has the personality for that show. They need someone younger for that shows demographics.

Hell to the NO...! I grew up listening to Aretha Franklin and she was in her time one hell of a performer... But based on how she have allowed herself to blow up giving the impression of irresponsibility for herself.., how and why should she be given the right to judge others...?

I know on one hand she would be judging the performance of the contestants.., but at the same time part of their performance will include appearance..., It perfectly ok if Aretha Franklin choose to be obese.., what is not ok in my opinion is to have to watch someone her size wobble out onto the stage week after week to sit in judgement of others.

The fact that she is being considered as a judge indicates to me that the steam that once made American Idol one of the hottest shows to watch is running out. And part of the reason is the voting process has the impression of being rigged..!

There is absolutely no way Phillip Phillips sing or perform better than Jessica Sanchez or Joshua Ledet... So it is no wonder that the producers are having to consider someone like Aretha Franklin to try and keep the show afloat. I was a fan of the show since the beginning.., but after the 2012 results I will no longer watch the show...JOMO

I haven't watched the show since they hired Jlow. This would be going from bad to worse. ANOTHER FUR HAG. No way. People that are voting YES don't realize how disgustingly fat and slow talking she is now. Yes, I appreciate her past music but with her financial problems and total loss of respect for herself – to be judging others – no way!

A seasoned pro would make an interesting change. She might actually deliver honest critiques and tell the producers or Nigel or whoever to shove it (in a more classy way) when they try to tell her to push someone, such as Jennifer Sanchez of last season.

Yes Mrs. Franklin who bring a very special style of judging to the idol table. She has close to 50 yrs. worth of experience. She knows what it takes to be a star. I just might watch the show if Aretha becomes a judge
