Would Aretha Franklin Make a Good 'American Idol' Judge?

Ever since Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler announced that they’d be leaving “American Idol,” rumors have been flying about who will replace them as judges. Now, one music superstar has volunteered her services: 18-time Grammy Award winner Aretha Franklin.

In addition to her many Grammys, Franklin, 70, became the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Though she is best known for 1960s hits such as “Respect” and “Baby I Love You,” Rolling Stone has described Franklin as the greatest female singer of all time.

Apparently, in an email to CNN on Saturday, Franklin said that she has long been a fan of “American Idol” and would love to join the cast as a judge. The Queen of Soul also suggested Patti LaBelle as a sidekick. According to CNN, “Fox declined to comment on Franklin on Saturday night.” But adding a judge of Franklin’s caliber may be just what the network needs to do to boost ratings.

    I voted no simply because personally I think she would make a good judge but I rarely even watch the show. I believe American Idol is on its way out no matter who they pick.

    Considering her possession of more talent, living under her pinky finger nail, than that of the rest of the hosts combined, sure, why not. Anyone with that much history (not to mention that many hits and awards), probably has a good idea of what talent is, and who possibly has it...Just a thought...

    I love Aretha, but she puts the D in diva. She's not going to be able to put up with the grind of that show. I'd rather she try judging "Sunday Best" on BET. If she can handle that, she can move over to Idol, which is a heavier schedule.

    I don't know why they don't get people with real experience! They get these one hit wonders and auto tunes people..Music is not what it use to be..The Artist could really sing and the band could play most any instrument... To much BullsH@@. these days.
