William Shatner's 'Eat, Fry, Love' PSA: Would You Ever Try Deep-Fried Turkey?

There are two things we really can't get enough of: deep-fried turkey and William Shatner. Which is why this public service announcement by State Farm insurance makes us really happy.

In the aptly titled "Eat, Fry, Love," Shatner talks of the importance of turkey fryer safety in order to prevent future fires. He does it as seriously as he can, but stuff gets pretty hilarious at the two-minute mark. We don't want to spoil it, but a "dingle-dangle" is referenced and Shatner gets pretty emotional.

But let's get to the point here, shall we? Up until this here commercial, we had never even heard of deep-frying a whole turkey. We're not saying it doesn't exist...but is it really a popular way of eating the main course for Thanksgiving? Who knows. It still makes us wonder, though. Would you ever have -- or have you ever had -- deep-fried turkey? If you haven't, you better get started. If not for us, for William Shatner.

I think William should lay off the fried stuff.......it looks as though Captain Kirk is carrying an extra Klingon.

We normally have one for Thanksgiving. They make nice electric fryers that you can use right on your kitchen counter. Safe and easy.

Definitely not, and even before I was vegetarian I hated fried chicken. Do you think I want to be as fat as Shatner? Here's what he used to look like. I suppose that a fried food is okay occasionally, but when eaten regularly it's just horrible for the body. I don't eat fried food, much less deep fried. I bake my own 'french fries' in the oven. captain kirk shirtless

You think, you can't get fat on vegetables? Vegetables are fattening, meat is not.You could get fat as a hog on vegetables.

Absolutely the BEST way to cook a turkey!!!! My kids would be very upset if they didn't have it for Thanksgiving & Christmas. This year I am forcing a turducken on them for Thanksgiving this year & they are NOT happy. I may have tto fry a turkey too to keep the peace.

I'll try it if I get the chance. I prefer eating healthily, though. Frying isn't the healthiest mode of cooking things.

I'm voting yes but I'd need to take a look at it first. seems like it would be raw at the center. I know I'd never prefer it that way

I had a turkey frier, but alas, I lost it in the last divorce. That being said, it is by far the best way to cook a turkey. It's done in peanut oil, not lard. It's not at all greasy. The juices are completely locked in, and it's never dry. I just can't say enough. It's fabulous!

It's actually delicious. It's not what you would think. You use peanut oil, not lard. It's not greasy in the least bit. The juices are completely locked in. And it cooks in much less time (usually around ten minutes per pound). I strongly recommend that if you get the opportunity you give it a try.

Fried turkey is delicious and infinitely better than chicken; I had it once at an Uncle's thanksgiving. I do not eat meat anymore but for those that do, you should give it a try. (or better yet go turkey-less :P)
