William Shatner's 'Eat, Fry, Love' PSA: Would You Ever Try Deep-Fried Turkey?

There are two things we really can't get enough of: deep-fried turkey and William Shatner. Which is why this public service announcement by State Farm insurance makes us really happy.

In the aptly titled "Eat, Fry, Love," Shatner talks of the importance of turkey fryer safety in order to prevent future fires. He does it as seriously as he can, but stuff gets pretty hilarious at the two-minute mark. We don't want to spoil it, but a "dingle-dangle" is referenced and Shatner gets pretty emotional.

But let's get to the point here, shall we? Up until this here commercial, we had never even heard of deep-frying a whole turkey. We're not saying it doesn't exist...but is it really a popular way of eating the main course for Thanksgiving? Who knows. It still makes us wonder, though. Would you ever have -- or have you ever had -- deep-fried turkey? If you haven't, you better get started. If not for us, for William Shatner.

I have tried it. It's great. Reminds me quite a bit of duck when cooked that way. Seals in the juices too. Makes a very moist turkey.

I wouldn't try to deep fry a turkey, but if someone else fried it, I would try it. Deep fried turkey has been around for at least five years.

Yes, I have ate deep fried turkey and is very delicious... however, cooking that way, can be very very dangerous.... Be careful to NOT to over fill oil to the point where the oil overflows when you put the turkey in the pot... as oil must be hot when you put the turkey in the pot. Many fires and injuries have occurred cooking this way.. and it must be out doors... and not on a deck.......but rather on the ground, on rocky driveway, in the drive way.. away from dry grass, leaves, building.... better yet, Super Smoker your turkey with in-direct heat... or even better yet, order a smoked turkey from the many BBQ places throughout the country.....

I like to make homemade turkey gravy. I think I would rather have the gravy than the fried turkey. It is my family's favorite gravy.

Ooooo! the only valid argument against deep fried turkey! I loves me some good turkey gravy! I guess you'd just have to cook a smaller turkey on the side for the gravy...

    Every Thanksgiving.

*For the people who have never tried it, but interested in doing so, please read how to do it properly. If you try to fry a frozen turkey it can result in death, and that is no joke. Please learn how to do it before trying*

My brother has been deep frying Turkey for a few years now and although I never tried it he has confirmed it is delicious and contrary to what people might think, if done right it is very juicy and not greasy at all.

I like it but not as much as a traditionally baked turkey. The texture isn't 'right' with fried turkey!

I'm shocked people haven't heard of it. I guess it's a Texas thing?

My thought too about a Texas things and most people here not have tried it. I've fried one (along with a smoked one as well) every Thanksgiving for decades now.

One of my sons bought a deep fryer several years ago and invited us over for a turkey dinner. I was pleasantly surprised at how moist and flavorful the turkey was. I highly reccommend trying it, If you like regular roast turkey you'll probably love it deep fried. Word of caution though, as with all fryers, that hot oil is dangerous and has to be treated as such. deep fried turkey
