- P. Sturm 2012/09/05 11:26:04I Think_________It's because the wife doesn't want to hear, "He's in Hell with all his buddies, he drank the devil under the table and has a hooker on each arm!" or a similar Irish sentiment.reply
- Flash, aka,Mr.Lightning 2012/08/05 12:20:57I Think_________It is because they have been taught a nonbiblical fairy tale. Scripture no where promises the reward of the saved as being heaven. Everyone good or bad goes to one place at death,-a hole in the ground. That's why there is to be resurrections. The biblical Jesus brought a message about a coming new world government and how to qualify to rule with Him. The true message beats boredom for eternity laying on a cloud while playing the same song on a harp for 7 trillion 844 billion 355 million 67 thousand 832 times.reply

- leslie 2012/08/03 04:19:01I Think_________+1Mostly it is people who believe in heaven to begin with. Heaven believers are also Hell believers. Heaven is a concept of Golden Gates and Streets of Gold and and an Omnipotent, Omniscient being sitting up there to tell them they are forgiven.....HELL is believed to be the exact opposite and NO ONE wants to believe their loved one went there.......It is so nice not to be bogged down by that mythos......reply

I think many that believe in Heaven disavow the concept of Hell concluding that no matter what you do on earth, within limits, everyone enters the pearly gates, especially those they love.reply - Kaleokualoha 2012/08/03 03:49:06I Think_________+1Wishful thinking! Although Catholic dogma seems to teach that our good and bad deeds are weighed against each other, Protestants seem to believe that only one factor determines entry into heaven: acceptance of Jesus as savior.reply

+1Well the Catholics used to teach that after death you got one more chance to work off your sins and get things right, it was called purgatory, but sadly the place lost funding and had to close it's doors. The same thing happened with Limbo but no one seems to be sure what happened to the un-baptized babies that resided there.reply - Flash,a... Mr. Roc... 2012/08/05 12:24:01
This concept comes from Dante Alighieri's 14th-century epic poem Divine Comedy.reply - John Duffee 2012/08/02 21:45:00 (edited)I Believe_________+1You're not supposed to speak ill of the dead if you can avoid it. Further, you're not God and if you are, you're not a god worth following, so it's not your place to pass judgment or even a matter of how much one has sinned per se in most religions that would be pertinent to your question.reply

- Headhunter 13 2012/08/02 20:27:13I Think_________+1They are looking for comfort even though it may not really exist. Funerals and wakes are for the living not the deceased.reply
