Why is it we can do right most of the time but the one bad is all that is remembered.

I am not sure how many have witnessed this, however; where I work and what I do I see it all the time. People can be the best at their job, do so much more then what is needed but the one time they make an error eveyone is up their butts. Not a realization that they are perfect in other levels but messed up and over something so stupid and minor.
As a boss what would you do if your had an exemplary worker and wish everyone was like him/her?
