Why do we pretend to be someone else?

once had an ''afair'' just in dream language,,,that was nice ,,,,not even anny real sexualety ,just courtly love,,it was perfect for as long as it lasted....we dind pretent to be not ourselfe,, but our schared fictive backround ,,and mortal adges? gone ...our harts and caracters were true,, the rest was our dreamworld...so when we broke the bubble it wasnt there annymore....but i'll miss my knight ,,more than he knows

I have no problem being myself.

to hold on to the one we love

Some want to sound better to others but I'm happy with who I am

I don't pretend to be anything I'm not. If you mean online...the only way I'm a little different is a bit more outgoing, don't have to worry about being the shy person I am.

Maybe they think they are boring so they disguise theirselfs as someone else

I don't and I think I pay for it, socially.

Either we don't like who we are, or we are afraid that we won't be loved by others for who we are. So we pretend in order to get love and acceptance, either from others or ourselves.

Speaking on my own behalf, I was unsatisfied with who I was, had no identity, and therefore nothing to love. I could stare into myself and only see a silouhette in black. No definition, nothing distinguishable. I became everyone else's shadow because that's all I was when I peered deeper into me.

I hope you've changed that.

I've started to. That's why I don't spend as much time with friends, and no longer am in a relationship. Its not healthy to be the way I was. Then again, it took my last relationship to notice this.

Sometimes that happens but the important thing is you noticed and changed that, fixed the problem. Let it be your reference for future relationships.

Some people aren't confident or self-assured. So they hide and pretend to be what they think others will like better. It's sad really. Being liked for exactly who you are is the best.

It's to avoid reality, maybe just to have fun. My sister and I used to shop at high-end shops and speak loudly in this fabricated "foreign" voice. We'd laugh and pretend we couldn't understand english. Might sound lame--but we had soooo much fun pranking folks!

Many reasons for many people. I know from experience that abuse plays a big factor on these issues. But there are many reasons why roles are played. Many people don't even know they are in a role and not free.

Because sometimes people can not stand to be their own being , maybe due to low self-esteem or there maybe certain things they dislike about themselves. So people pretend to put on acts to be someone they or not, but you can not hide or run from your self. God gives us one face but we put on another mask to try to cover up the real being that you are. They do it to avoid coming face to face with their selves. Some do it for attention. When you pretend to be someone you are not your cutting your self short. We are all special in our own way. Why pretend to be someone you are not? Is it because of the choices people make in their lives? Remember our lives are what we make it. So to pretend to be someone or something you are not then you are not being true to yourself .
