Why do so many people hate vegetarians, vegans, and people who actually care for animals?!

I think being openly a vegan or vegetarian is like the people who are openly gay and lesbian, they have this amazing NEED to tell others about it.....i dont know if they do it because they are uncomfortable about it, or is there another reason? and of course, if you disagree with them, others make your "disagreement" seem like you are not nice....now THATs reality. (or they just call you a jerk and ostracize you).

I don't know....i mean really?? Why would someone hate vegetarians,vegans and people who cares about animals!! Like serious? It's their own choice, if they want to help animals and don't eat meat and other products then why would someone hate them for doing that???

I'm a carnivore, but I don't hate vegetarians or vegans, I just agree to disagree about lifestyles. My daughter is a vegetarian and I do my best to buy her the food she wants while making sure that she eats enough.

Why do People hate Anybody? It's a part of life.. It isn't just Vegetarians. People get hate for loving lamb chops too.
It's just that there is a small amount of Vegetarians/vegans that screw things up for the rest of them by criticizing other peoples lifestyles.

Because for some strange reason some people think that ALL vegetarians and vegans are crazy psychos that will tie you up and shove broccoli down your throat. -_-

It's got something to do with this:

Essentially, vegetarians (and especially vegans) seem to feel they're morally superior. And unfortunately, many vegetarians (especially on the internet) are dicks about it.

Now most vegetarians in real life aren't dicks about it. But online is a different matter.

Of course you are. But in any group, the most strident are the most visible. If 80% of vegetarians or vegans are reasonable and nice folks, but 20% are obsessed and loud, the rest of the world hears the loud folks more.

I wasnt aware that vegetarians were hated--I cant think of any good reason for that.

Well I'm a Pescatarian and people don't seem to have a problem with me and I've never seen people hate on vegans or vegatarians, they're usually just joking. But I guess some people are just idiots and have nothing better to do. >.<
