You're welcome. I was really active in my daughter's activities and stuff. She was in mitey mite cheerleading and I started coaching (and did for years), I coordinated dances for our churches children's choir (I'm a terrible singer) and taught Sunday School for a long time. I absolutely loved it. Also Girl Scouts, I was a camping mom. Even though I was working full time, I wanted to make sure that I was involved in everything else. Years later when I went back to school to go into teaching, it was those very things that helped me get my first job as a lateral entry teacher. So I know what you mean! Have a great day.

I'm surprised that your Conservative relatives were not supportive. I'm a life-long Conservative, and I had the opposite reaction when I decided to leave lucrative job to stay at home with my daughter. The people who looked at me like I was nuts were my Liberal friends (not all, to be fair). Sorry you had a bad experience with them, but as I said, I'm pretty surprised.

I know? You would think that. They were more concerned with our "status" -- whether our neighborhood or the type of car we drove was good enough. It's funny, because at the time I absolutely was Conservative and went to a Fundamentalist type church that supported stay-at-home mom's. I've since become a bit more moderate for personal reasons.

This is bizarre. I don't think they really represent the way most Conservatives feel. But I'm glad to hear you went with the way you believed was best for your kids in spite of their opinions. Trust me when I say that most Conservatives would support you.

I am suprised as well all the cons I know are to busy living/working to judge another mama...her experience is backwards to mine.

It undermines their whole world view that to be a liberated woman you must (1) have a college degree, (2) engage in sex like a sailor, (3) get a job where you have power, (4) have at least one lesbian encounter, (5) stuff yourself with contraceptive hormones, (6) have at least one abortion in one's life, (7) have a child only when you;re in your late thirties, and (8) drop him off at day care so you can pursue a career.

    That's female liberation.

I saw on your page that you're a widow. My deepest sympathies. It must have been very hard, especially since you seem so young to be a widow. Being alive means experiencing pain and hurt. May God resolve it all some day for us all.

I am young, and my husband was very young as well. Only a year older than me. It was a very aggressive form of Lymphoma that took his life. I have two beautiful children however and we were blessed. We married young and had 12 amazing years of marriage before he passed on. It has been very hard. He hasn't quite been gone a year. I have been able to find happiness with my children, and my friends and family. He was the best of men.

Stay at home Mom's have one of the hardest jobs out there. A liberal doesn't understand hard work because they never have to get off their asses to do anything.

Right, it's easy to work full time and be active in your child's life. A working mom's life isn't easy and you shouldn't demean it. Everyone doesn't have the opportunity to stop working when they have a child.

I stayed home with both sons. I was able to so why the hell would i possibly leave my kids with someone else to raise? Why the hell would i break my ass outside the comfort of my home? Hey, when you know you cannot stay home, don't have kids.

....well life changes....and people have different goals/parenting. I am all for SAHP but I don't think "when you know you cannot stay home, don't have kids." is the right way to tackle it. There is one young mama I have just began to have the pleasure of befriending and she ...is AMAIZING. Orginized, structured, loving, and can multitask like it's nothing at 17. Her twins were not planned but as soon as she knew they were there she stepped up. Her ex BF(the papa) took a bit longer but they are a team not together but are working it out. Her family and his...and their friends all pushed for elective abortion. Her parents kicked her out for not doing the right thing(she stayed with us for a few weeks till she got her own place).
Life is not always cut and dry...you know what I am saying?

I do see it as cut and dry..At 14 you are well aware of how pregnancy occurs so take the right steps to prevent it. There's no such thing as an "accident". So who is supporting the twins?

She is and the baby daddy. She got her GED and is going to be a surgical nurse in...4 months.Which is a very well paid job so I think they will be fine. I watch her babies when she needs backup...love me some babies...
  • mustang... Mamaknows 2012/10/27 19:38:43

Well sorry to burst your bubble but it takes 6 years to become a surgical nurse. You must first earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) and then pass the Medical-Surgical Nurse Certification exam. The BSN is a 4-year college degree program, and the exam cannot be taken until you have had 2 years of hand-on experience. So who will be footing the bill for the twins?

LOL they are she invited me to her party for her cert....I don't know if that is different or it depends where you are. As I said they are not buying a Prious but are getting by....like many people these days ...he is an underwater welder on the coast.
Plus even if they were like many people these days on assitance I would not have a problem with a hand up vs a handout. Life is complicated and messy...LOL I know people with their masters working fast food to try and get by. They had kids when everything was rosie and now it's ....not.
Some are just NOT cut out for staying at home. They are still good parents just different then the type, like me, that enjoys being home.

That is all I am saying. People (usally liberals but it is not limited to political veiws...LOL) that say
"If you don't vaccinate your family you are horrid parents..."
That is a mixed bag there walk into a room of new parents and say that you do not vaccinate and a few will get nasty....

or "If you do not breastfeed your newborn you are not a good mama."
Hey I LOVED BF and given the oppertunity I would bf till my kids were 3! But thankfully we live in a time when if you are not comfy with it you do not have to...or if you can not you baby will live.

Or any number of things that people differ on in parenting styles....

Or any number of things that people differ on in parenting styles. I will argue some but to make a blanket statement belittling a person for staying home or if you circumsize or vaccinate or spank or get an epi in labor....I would not do that.
Life is complicated and different families value different things.

If given a choice for what I think is the BEST things for raising kids?
A happy stay at home parent(mom or pop but mostly moms enjoy it most the time) in a two parent family(mom and pop) with loving family(gramps, uncles, aunties, cousins, & friends) breast fed for the first two years, fed healthy organic foods, lots of time outside, with a solid structure to their day, with animals around and all the pedis and molesters would have a big P tattooed on their forehead and would have an evil look like they want to eat babies (easy to know) with wonderful teachers that inspire.......
That would be the very BEST....but life is NOT that simple. You make the best of what you have.
