Why do people use cuss words ?

The Smartass Group

The other day my wife asked me , why do you swear so much ? Its like every other word comes out your mouth is a cuss word .Well this got me to thinking , why does someone use profanity ? It only adds words to your statements , for instance ,this car is a fu##ing pile of sh^% instead of this car is junk . See , extra words that mean the same thing . And after a day of conversing with others thats a lot of extra verbage .

And what makes the seven dirty words dirty , who was the scholar that figured that one out ? What makes the word Sh#t any more offensive than feces or bowel movement ? So as one professional cusser to another , can you tell me , I sure dont know . Oh yeah , why do some people find the use of profanity so disgusting , if you heard it before it aint nothing new and if you never have then you dont know what it is .

You!

If I couldn't swear then I would have to resort to smoking crack.... I need a vice, and swearing is the healthiest one around!

I think it all has to do with properness and what society calls appropriate speech, but lets face it, when something goes wrong, people do not state "oh my oh gee, pussy feathers". Profanity provides emphasis to what we say, it is heard and gets the point across, no doubt. There's usually an emotional response attached to curse words, as long as it's not personally offensive to others, just let everyone be themselves. I wont watch movies or comedy shows (if they are cut) without the "realness" of the true context (profanity)

too much swearing can cause you to have lazy speech, for example we might say 'he was really fucked for getting in peoples faces" instead of saying "he was really obnoxious the way he was getting in peoples fucking faces", lol

I think profanity shows a lack of ability to communicate ones displeasure in a logical and civil manner. It really shows one to be crude and under-educated.

People who think they are more civil than those who cuss are the same ones who think because they sniff wine, gargle it and spit it out and who go to operas in languages they do not understand think they are more refined than walmart shoppers and people who rent netflix. it's just a matter of opinions and we all know opinions are like assholes - we all have one and we all think everyone's stinks but ours.

I sympathize with her, I hear so many people cuss and am one who tries to stay away from doing so as an exercise in civility. My parents taught me I should be polite and cordial even with the ones I really hate. It is not for us to be permitted to fall to their level I suppose as our hearts wish to speak pure and without labels of such.

because people tend to be shit all stupid ( and religion does not help) :) there really is no right of wrong only popular public opinion. Like the "N" word how dumb is that ? So what they are saying is if you take off the last 5 letter You can say it on TV, talk about it like it no longer exsists in it's long form. it's the intent I put behind a word that makes it good or bad. if it is meant to hurt, offend ( to a point, offending a super sensitive nimrod does not count) or in anyway to mentally hurt You I believe it is not called for.

I was in the Military followed by 20+ years as a auto mechanic. It's just the way it was. No apologise , no regrets. A word is only a word, if someone is offended by a word not directed at them than the problem is theirs. some people are just so shit all sensitive.

I for one mostly do it because my dad does so. Frequently. And I learned from him, and it just sort of stuck so well that now, I can make a sailor blush. I'm somewhat proud of that.

It can definitely get your point across when you're too angry to take the time to stop and think of something better to say. Sure, some people are going to say it makes you sound uneducated. Educated people come up with some of the best strung-together cursing phrases I've ever heard.

As for why the dirtiest words are considered the dirtiest, I don't know. And if you haven't heard George Carlin's whole bit about that, where have you been, and why haven't you heard it yet? Also, "sh!t" used to be a word that made me cringe. It doesn't bother me now, but "feces" and "vomit" still do for some reason. I have a strong stomach but can't handle those things.:|

Profanity is the linguistics crutch of inarticulate mother f-ckers! There are more ways to allow one, the priviledges of performing an osculatory excercise of the Gluteus To the Maximus without resorting to low and mundane linguistics that citizens of breeding would never deign to resort to in a moment of stressful articulation.

I do it because it bothers some people. It's society choosing certain words that have historical connections to taboo subjects. Who cares, they're just words.

Fun
