well for me, it's just a natural thing. I only cuss now, when im very angry and just what happens. But people pick it up from their parents and this it is normal to cuss like this. But now, if they cuss let's say about ten to twenty words in a few sentences, then something is up.

I think the letter sound makeup of many swear words is very satisfying in the mouth. It's like eating something you enjoy. It doesn't make it right, but it's one theory.

They're too angry or ignorant to use real words to express themselves.

These aren't the words of a bitter, jaded, insular person... clearly. And it expresses a mood; it doesn't define who you are as a person. Please try to be a little less hypocritical. Also, when you're sad you feel like crying right? You have to relieve your emotions one way or another. Otherwise it builds n you just become more agitated until u snap n do something u regret; It always comes out one way or another even if YOU can't c it. Some people r more emotional than others too so it'd b different for them, u hav 2 b more considerate n compassionate n look outside urself. Ur not the only type of person out there u know. We all have our vices n if someone wants to let out some steam with a few words, I say let them. Do what you gotta do as long as you're not intentionaly hurting anyone. I think using agressive words instead of aggressive actions to release anger is a much healthier option but that's just my opinion.

it's proven that swearing when you're in pain (Ex: you stub your toe) releases things (endorphins and such) that physically make you feel better

    Plenty of reasons.
Emphasis, frustration, humor, to sound cool/tough. People have their own reasons for doing what they do.

I agree with you. It is a lack of self-control and it's also reacting before thinking. They're intellectually lazy. Their invalid argument is "everyone else does it."

i think it's because they have more of an affect on people or something or so they think. ex: people get into an argument and throwing around profanity makes them think the other person will back down because it makes them seem more angry.
but the truth is, no one gets that anymore, they are not even intimidated by those words so they throw them around too and it just turns into something really dumb. to me though, they are just words made up just like 'cup', 'carpet, 'food' etc but people just have to have good words and bad words in society so we have to be more careful with ourselves or whatever. i'm not big on profanity. i rarely use it at all if i do i usually end up apologizing anyways for using it -_O

I don't know when it all began that expressing certain words in such a way was the thing to do, but I recently saw a Dr. Oz segment where he said that doing so gives some "relief" and had the audience "swear" at the same time (that they bleeped). I don't know why it has become certain expressions, though. I suppose if we said something like "Oh, Chicken!!" Or "Venezuela!" or "Do-do", it wouldn't have the same impact.

What I want to know is how and why the F-word was established as THE word constantly used in movies and everywhere else. I've always wondered, if variations of "F___" represents a "good thing", then why is this expressed toward others in hatred or anger? Also, why in this day and age, there is nothing else to say? I mean, it's never ending. I was sitting in front of the TV and heard this every other word, again, when I was hoping for something with good dialogue... I had to turn it. Pretty tired of it.
