It's definately a stereotype, at least here in the U.S.
    Is it true?

    Not my name.
Because we colonised India, Burma, and south west China where the majority of tea was grown. Tea drinking began common in the early 19th century and is still the most popular drink. We English drink more tea per head than any other nation, but coffee is still a very popular drink and not that far behind tea consumption nowadays. I drink both and so do most people I know.

Incidentally coffee drinking is older than tea drinking in England, coffee became available in England in the 16th century and coffeehouses where common in England then and still are today. We drink about 2/3 the amount of coffee per head as is drunk in America, so it is not exactly unusual for people to drink coffee in the UK.

yup i was about to say that too. it started during the colonial years where tea is the most common goods for trading. In fact the best tea which i still consider is in India, the best ever. Not fun of Chinese tea.

Hmmm. Maybe the tea thing is from the Boston Tea Party back during the America Revolution and I guess a lot of americans like coffee.
