Why are , are prisons overpopulated by African Americans?

Most of the people to in the prison system are in there for Marijuana arrest. A drug that many americans believe should be legal.

NOT TRUE.. UNLESS THEY HAVE A LARGE AMOUNT( to deal./resale).PLUS MOST BLACKS ARE NOT INTO DEALING MARIJUANA.. COKE OR HERON OR PILLS YES BUT VERY FEW EVEN SMOKE POT OUR MEXICAN PEOPLE & WHITE DEAL THE POT CHECK THE FACTS

IN HOUSTON BLACK ON BLACK CRIME IS VERY HIGH/ NOT JUST BLACK ON WHITE CRIME. THE DRUG DEALERS AND GANGS SHOOT EACH OTHER ALMOST EVERY DAY AND THE BANK HOLD UP IS VERY HIGH AND THE MAJORITY OF THEM CAUGHT ON FILM IS ABOUT 90% BLACK MEN, SAME FOR THE ROBBERY OF PHONE SALES AND CONVIENT STORE HOLD UPS THE DAMN FILMS DON'T LIE''DAMN IF THE TRUTH HURTS DOESN'T IT... BUT IT IS A FACT.... SAME IN EVERY MAJOR CITY IN AMERICA.CHECK OUT WHAT HAPPENS IN CHICAGO DANG NEAR EVERY DAY, PLUS DETROIT, OAKLAND AND ETC,, SO DON'T TELL ME THAT THE PRISON HAS MORE BLACK INMATES BECAUSE THEY WERE BROUGHT UP POOR, A LOT OF US WERE BROUGHT UP POOR BUT DON'T DUE THE CRIMES.. POOR DAMN EXCUSE AMERICA

Opressed people tend be angry. This system in America is greered to keep the poor in just that state poor while the well off get to take even more from the middle class until there is no more middle class. In turn angry is the result and anger causes bad behavior.

Not saying white people are bad, but blacks are targeted more for the same offences that whites commit and go to prison for it. this is why our prison system is overpopulated. Whites smoke more marijuana but blacks are arrested more for posession.

Not enough reasons. But to the point of why...due to recent storms that have knocked out power in a very large portion of the country, there is a lot of looting going on. Most of the looting is being done by Blacks. Why is that? There are many people of all races affected by this storm. Why aren't they all looting? I don't care if you are smart or stupid, rich or poor, looting is a crime no matter what color you are. Everyone knows this but apparently more Blacks than other races don't care. Maybe this philosophy applies to all crime.

You need more choices here! There are many, and complex, reasons that African-Americans are overrepresented in the U.S. correctional system. It's fashionable to blame a "racist" criminal justice system for this, but the fact is these people are in prison for committing crimes. Racism didn't cause the evil attitudes, broken families, high rates of out-of-wedlock births, child abuse and pernicious antisocial values that plague many black communities. The lack of a cohesive family structure and, more importantly, a lack of suitable male role models for young black males, who are the chief perpetrators of violent crime, make urban black communities the perfect breeding grounds for crime. Is it any wonder then that our prisons are bursting at the seams with blacks?

Why do the single mothers who can't afford to take care of one child keep having babies they can't afford so they grow up to be criminals??? Why don't they just stop having babies if they can't or won't take proper care of them???

And that goes for ALL races!!!!

Because when you break the law you go to jail .

They need more education........more and better education the less likely people are to do crimes.

They commit the crimes they do the times. Various stats show blacks commit more crimes. What most people dont see though is it is not that blacks are more apt to commit crimes, but poverty plays a huge part. We have a system by liberals that bascially puts blacks back into the plantation system. It says "vote for us" and we will protect you from the evil conservatives. What most blacks are too stupid to realize is these liberals they have been supporting intentionally keep them in this position so they can count on their votes every election cycle. This is why the thing most hated by liberals ( other than God, Guns, and america) is a conservative black man. He broke the chains and realizes he can make it on his own.

white and native here. SO if someone rapes a woman and kills her its an injustice? I agree blacks had it bad but that does not give the amount that are robbing and raping the reason to do that. You look at some of the most dangerous places in the country they are majority black and or latino. THey are not white or asian. I dont believe its racial superiority its conditioning.

I don't know where you have been living. Where I live, Blacks get a better deal in the justice system than almost anyone.

If someone was in jail for a crime then I'm pretty sure they KNEW what they were going. This isn't a luck thing either, they did something stupid and illegal and then they spend their lives in jail.

For some reason they like to bring their awful stereotype to life.

For the same reason that a disproportionate number of murder victims will be Black, as well as that a disproportionate number of murder victims will be murdered by a Black assailant.
