Why are , are prisons overpopulated by African Americans?

Perception of crime has a lot to do with this video. Remember, people respond to crime when a criminal subculture directly affects them. For example, years ago there was a disparity in sentencing of white powdered cocaine abusers and African-American crack cocaine abusers. The former received lighter sentences and the latter received stiffer sentences. The reason seemed to have everything to do with the levels of violence that was indicative with the latter. The reality is that the crack subculture was/is associated with violence while the powdered cocaine subculture was that of middle and upper-class whites who were disconnected and disassociated with the violent world that their powdered cocaine passed through before entering their protected world of so-called “recreational” drug use.

Before becoming a teacher, I was a law enforcement officer and administrator. It was then the consensus of those of us in law enforcement that instead of minority crimes being less vilified by the courts, so-called “white crimes” should be given greater scrutiny and equally severe sanctions by the courts. That seems to be happening now according to the DOJs National Institute of Justice/Bureau of Justice Statistics as the proportionally smaller white criminal subculture defines its place in the overall criminal dynamic in this country. However, a white criminal subculture sees white criminals coming from all levels of the white socio-economic model due to their entering into the drug culture and remaining separate and estranged from the white society from which they came, while the criminal subculture of African Americans tend to carry on from previous generations of our nation’s failed government imposed societal reforms dating back to the 60s. In other words, there is a greater gulf and seperation between law abiding white society and the white criminal subculture, while law abiding African American society is generally never far from the African American criminal subculture which victimizes them first due to proximity and victimizes others when opportunity permits.
