The fact that the father spends his time with his family and does things to bond with his family is far more of the spirit than a bunch of material objects like trees

I don't really care for either one...but for the Tulsa woman, I just can't wrap my head around starting to decorate for Christmas on October 1.

NO KIDDING!!! It's bad enough that Halloween stuff and Christmas stuff are now in the stores at the SAME time! Can't get over one holiday without being bombarded with the next . . .

There really is no way to confirm that theory. It actualy depends on the kind of experiences he gave them. he could of use the money to take trips around the country or the world for that matter, which surpasses just about any material gift. Christmas is (for me and many others) about creating memories and tradtions that last a lifetime that can be passed down for generations!

Why is this a question,Obama family spends 1.6 Billion per year of taxpayer money,I suppose she is percieved as rich therefore should divide her collection 10 ways.How working Americans spend their money is not your business or mine.
I have a Christmas collection amassed over many years paid for with money I earned,its valued in the tens of thousands,get over it!

My parents probably have close to what you do in Christmas stuff. It will take them a week to put it all out, and the same to put it away. My mom spent years making an entire Christmas village out of yarn and this plastic stuff. It is breathtaking! And now is big enough to take up the entire dining room, it is awesome - she has little lights in all the little buildings. Anyhow, sorry to jump in - your post made me think of my parents!

My things are glorious when dispalyed,takes the imagination a stroll down memories lane,we couldnt afford much more than construction paper chains when I was little,I was amazed with the colors of Christmas at the 5&10.What you describe is a Putz Village its orgin,German.......hope you and family have a very merry christmas this year:)

I think that both of them make the person doing it happy. It's your personal experience and what happens to you that makes you love or hate Christmas. Whatever makes you happy is fine with me though.

we were kind of like the dad we gave our kids experiences sometimes instead of gifts. especially when they were older. like we used the christmas money to go on vacation instead of buying gifts. we went to disney world one year another we went to dc. and weve gone other places too. andgave the kids memories hopefully

My daughter likes having a few gifts and then hanging out, baking cookies, playing Epic Mickey, watching Christmas movies and maybe going out to the movies.
