All the dogs I have owned were able to walk themselves any time they wanted, because I never kept them penned, tied, or fenced in, and they had free run of the place as they should.

The last dog I had was a stray Doberman we named Killer, that was just like a big puppy, until something happened that convinced him that he needed to change, and then he could be all teeth and snarl to those that he felt threatened any member of the family.

He either stayed in my yard or one of my two neighbors, who were glad to have him around, because he not only walked their kids, and mine, to the school bus stop each day, but guaranteed that no one was going to steal anything with him around.

He used to make his rounds of all three houses, several times each day and night, just as if he knew it was his job to protect all of us, and he is now buried in our pet cemetery up on the hill behind the house.

He was a good dog, we were all glad to have with us, and no one ever had to walk him.

No longer have a dog, but when I did they did not require "walking" since they had .75 fenced acres to roam and play in.

He goes longboarding/running with me to the grocer in the morning (Which is a daily affair, seeing how I plow through juice.), and goes to the park to chase a frisbee after work, and on my skate/run right before bed.

Big Akita: need help walking him, as he pulls everywhere.
Little Chihuahua: I walk him to the office. He often gets a ride home, and another family member takes him for a walk when it's warm.

Don't currently have one of my own. Rent room in a house with two dogs, but I don't walk them. They're too strong for me. But they get lots of exercise from the owners. When I had my dogs through the years, it was always me who walked them. And loved doing it.
