As a longtime Bear fan, I'm afraid that we're in over our heads this year. Green Bay is clearly the best team in football - Minnesota will be tough with its "new" quarterback - Detroit is quite improved. If we split with our divisional opponents (which is a real possibility) but lose two to GB, we are already 5 into the loss column. We almost have to sweep everybody else or only lose one other game to even make the playoffs. And, history tells us that the Bears can lose to any given team on any given day. So, sadly, I believe that those of us, nonetheless, loyal to our Bears (just as to our Cubs) will have a lot of weekends of aggravations and excuse making this year. I hope that I'm wrong, but I see the Bears at 8-8 and watching GB and Minnesota representing the Central Division in the post season.
Yep - I have hoped for decades. We could surprise a few people if the cards fall properly. My fear, though, is that all of the Central is better than before, include one-time pushover, Detroit. I'll be the first to be happy if I'm wrong about things, but I'm still worried.
Not too good after pre-season; but, they really got it together thereafter. But, the difference last year was the schedule and the weakness of Minnesota and Detroit. This year will be different, I fear.
The majority of the people I know in and around the Chicago area were saying how bad they were going to be last year. For the first 4 or 5 games most of the media personalities were saying the same thing. With the NFC North looking so strong, they expected the Bears to only win like 4 or 5 games.
Detroit looked really good last year too, and we beat them both times. They didn't have the greatest record, but part of that was all the QB injuries. They were close to winning in most of their losses. We beat them both times last year.
Minnesota looked stronger at the start of last year than they do this year. With Brett Favre leading them, everybody was talking Superbowl at the beginning of the season. And they came in last in the division. Now they lost Sidney Rice and Ray Edwards. They lost Patt Williams and replaced him with Ayodele. That might work out for them, but Ayodele has not been as productive as Williams was. We destroyed Minnesota last year.
Greenbay is still going to be tough. But we went 1-1 against them. The second game we lost 10-3 and was probably one of the worst looking games for us last year. We didn't need that win to win the NFC North, and we had beat them in the third game of the season, when our line was still letting Cutler get sacked like mad...

I think that a lot of the Bears players (and maybe some coaches) really thought that beating Green Bay in that last game (of the regular season) wasn't worth any injuries and they were thinking about keeping everybody healthy for the post season. They probably didn't expect Green Bay to get the Wild Card, and if by some chance they did, then the Bears would just beat them in the playoff game. We should have won that last season game.
I think the Bears added more talent this year. And I like the look of the preseason games. Cutler was only getting sacked once per game on average. Our biggest problem last year was the offensive line, and Cutler's drops. I think this year will be better than last, as long as major injuries don't stop us.
Stay positive!
Bear down, Chicago Bears, make every play clear the way to victory;...
I lived in the Northwest Chicago Suburbs (Schaumburg) from 1982-1986. Love “Da Bears” and was of course partying hardy in 85 when they won the Super Bowl.
Hank Williams, Jr. asks in his Monday Night Football song, "Are you ready for some football?" And I answer, HELL to the YEAH! I'm a Cincinnati Bengals fan, so this year, my mantra will be GO STEELERS! [haha]
HURRAY!!!!!! GO BRONCOS, PACKERS, COLTS AND GIANTS!!!!! I know. I like a lot of teams, but I am from the midwest and there are a few teams that are really good. I basically like watching it in general, but I wish that ESPN would bring back "Jacked-up"
Tell me about it. The wife has already prepared also. She held a shotgun to the remote and threatened to shoot it unless I allow her the occasional "chick flick".........I bought a new hi-tech universal remote! lololol
I'm ready -- I just hope they are!
My family jokes that "TRUE" football and baseball fans are Bears and Cubs fans, because even though we never win, we're still by their sides hahaha
