As the old adage goes, "nothing is certain but death and taxes." And we hate to bring up bad news, but the latter part of that certainty is almost upon us. April 15 is known for nothing more than "tax day." It's the day we're all supposed to get our paperwork together, submit our documents, and only hope for a substantial amount of cash back in return. Or maybe you just like knowing that you're performing your patriotic duties as a U.S. citizen. Whatever the case, we'd love to know more about your opinion on taxes. Take our six-question Tax Survey. However... I pay an accountant $800 to prepare them, and I do almost all the work, myself. There's definitely something wrong with the filing process!

Why not simply change the system? You pay your accountant" to keep you out of trouble... but that's like hiring a body guard to protect you in a bad neighborhood. Why not change the neighborhood... get rid of the 'thugs' (IRS) and their weapons (the tax code) and you will no longer need your "wonderful" bodyguards. http://www.fairtax.org/site/P...

Yeah, I can cope with that sort of tax, for sure. As it is, they screw you for earning it, for saving it (what little interest you get), and for spending it. They even screw you for giving it away! How did we allow them to get away with this?

You should not even have to fill out any forms OR pay any taxes except for a VERY Small Real Time Tax when ever you make a transaction which would be handled automatically just as Sales Taxes are.

The whole tax system is more of a Tax Shell Game and terribly out of date. Among other things, It should have been scraped and replaced with the system that I have proposed many years ago. Take a look at my "Bio" page above and encourage anyone you know, who is old enough to vote, to sign onto the Web Site, and Support my Campaign and maybe, when we are sucessfull, soon there will be no "Tax Day" on April 15th. Time is very important, there are only 34 days from 3 April 2012 until the first vote for the AmericansElect Nomination, and they want each Declared Candidate to have 5,000 Support Clicks from each of 10 States by 6 May 2012, I need ALL of your Support. The return is the easy part and costs a bit of time. Tax due...not so much.

Two members of our extended family had their tax refunds compromised by identity thieves this year. I will never again wait on a refund.

Taxes are necessary, having the government STEAL too much then pretend they are doing us a favor by "returning" it is annoying. I elect a fair tax, no overages, no tax returns, no filing stupid amendments.

Thank you, that was one of the first things that I started my Campaign with. when my proposal fully implemented it should replace ALL other taxes, both Federal ans State unlike the so-called fair tax. That would include replacing things such as the property tax which is how many States pay for things like schools which is why a large number of school districts are going bankrupt. I am working from the Federal level down, however, it would be great if some of the States would go ahead and do it first.

The total current tax system is a huge bureaucracy which costs the people of the United States a large fortune to operate and in addition to that there is a major industry which is totally non-productive to the US Economy based on just managing taxes, avoiding taxes and processing taxes, and those people would be much more productive to the Economy doing almost anything else.

I just want things to be removed that were put there to benefit a few, and steal from many. I would say paying taxes, but it's built in to most jobs that I've had, so it's easy. I know that I make 54K to spend every year, the government knows that I make 75K to tax from. As for the tax filing, I have to ask why? Especially this year where (as a military member) I owe taxes to uncle sam.....If he wants more money he should have to come and get it! It's not my fault he didn't take out enough! When I don't take enough money out of my account to pay for my bills, the electric company doesn't fill out some heinous application that awaits my approval! They add it to my next bill!

if I owe money & know I owe it, I have no problem paying it, but filing is becoming too complicated. The government gets paid to do it, so why should I? If I make an error they sure will find it, so let them do the leg work & I'll intervene when they make an error.

I actually do not mind either.I like to drive on the roads and send my kids to school, as well as the protection offered by police, fire, military etc. SO paying taxes isn't a big deal. I also do not mind filing a return, because if I paid in extra it is like getting your yearly rainy day fund. Extra money you earned but didn't know you had to spend.

I understand that taxes are a necessary evil. If I expect the government to perform necessary services, like highway construction and repairs, police, fire, military and social services that promote health and education of the public. Some consider this Socialism. If we did not have centralized organizations for these necessary services we would end up with a clusters of privet sector, very expensive service providers or even worse no providers at all. We have seen this with some cases in the news ware a homeowner lost there home because they missed a fire protection payment. Imagine what would happen with a police force working under this privet pay protection.

I will closely agree with you in saying that the Republicans are very corrupt as are the Democrats. One major difference though, is that the Republicans are not nearly as organized as the Democrats are, yet, the Democrats are far more corrupt than the GOP which makes them exceedingly more dangerous.

America is presently 'trillions of dollars in debt', and thanks to Obama who doesn't have a birth certificate, and he is probably not an American Citizen (certainly not a natural born American Citizen) either, when Obama signs multiple I.O.U. Bills totaling $21,000,000,000,000.00 (trillion dollars), he is personally not taking any risk of responsibility for the astronomical amount he has signed for, but every American (even those born at this very second) have a debt burden of approximately $50,000.00 straped to their back, and that, even before they are washed and dried-off!

But as I mentioned about the Republicans, that absolute moron George W. Bush said that he would vote for Obama for President, if he had the opportunity. There is "no-difference", not even $.10 of a difference, between a Democrat and a Republican. This goes to show how pitifully wrong the American voters are when they make such a fuss over the two-party candidates. The Democrats and the Republicans (both) want to borrow the same amount of money [MONEY WE DON'T HAVE],

CCR, if you confiscated 100% of all the earnings made by those making $250k or more, you would fund only about two weeks of government, or reduce the $1500 Billion deficit by only $400 billion.

What's your solution for the following year, since all of the rich people you robbed the previous year would have moved to places where you couldn't tax them any more.

Your statement implies that they are not paying what is legally required of them, and that if they did do what was legally required, "we would not be in this mess"...

Do you have any data that indicates that the top 1% DO NOT pay what is legally required of them? Even G.E. who paid "zero" corporate taxes in 2010, still filed a tax return of over 18000 pages, costing them over $28 million in compliance, accounting and documenation costs proving that their not paying taxes was "what was legally required of them" do to the tax loopholes and deductions that our government put into the tax code. But the average person cant afford to pay for high priced CPAs and tax attorneys, that's why I'm a FairTax Advocate.

Don't blame the 1%, blame the people that create the laws that favor one group of Americans over another group of Americans.

If "most are in jail now for avoiding paying taxes" how do they qualify for being in the top 1%?

If the tax regs provide loopholes, why shouldn't those with the ability to discover and exploit those loopholes do so?

On the other hand, why not simplify the entire tax code, eliminate the $480 Billion spent EACH YEAR on compliance, documentation and tax advisory services and expand the universe of tax payers to include anyone that buys something in the U.S? That would include all those that illegally earn their incomes (drug dealers, hookers, foreign tourists, etc.etc.) contribute to our tax base?

Instead of attacking those that know how to generate wealth, to generate production, that know how to provide goods, services and jobs, why not simply get out of the way of these productive 1% of the population and let them spend their time and energy creating the products and services that people obviously want to buy from them. Why not get out of their way of both the rich, the poor and the middle class? Simply move the tax system from attacking income, profits, wages and wealth accrual, to just taxing consumption?

Suddenly Warren Buffett would pay the same tax on that cheeseburger and fries as does his secretary or as you or me? Wouldn't that be fair?

That's your reply? I try to carry on an intelligent conversation with you and that's the response? A magazine cover of a criminal that successfully pulled the wool over the eyes of the SEC for YEARS after numerous audits and examinations they still didn't catch him?

The only thing that brought Maddoff down was his in ability to recruit new suckers, which is the prime flaw in every Ponzi based system. Unlike the Government's own Ponzi scheme, the Social Security System where government can FORCE you to participate, at least Maddoff had to provide his customers with the benefits he promised, which he did right up until the doo-doo hit the fan.

But if that's your rebuttal, please note that Bernie isn't in jail for not paying his "fair share" of taxes. He is in jail for fraud and malfeasance.

Please feel free to chime in the discussion when you can provide RATIONAL support for your claim that our problems would be solved if the 1% would pay their fair share.

"LMAO What? They all would quit their jobs?" CCR, did you read what I said?
After you stop LYAO, please try to pay close attention because I'm sure you will find this REAL complicated. You may need to take notes...

What I said was: "if you confiscated 100% of all the earnings made by those making $250k or more, you would fund only about two weeks of government, or reduce the $1500 Billion deficit by only $400 billion"

And if you did confiscate 100% of their earnings, there would be no reason for them to go to their jobs. So, YES, they all would quit their jobs and move somewhere that the Plantation Massah could no longer confiscate all that the slaves produced.

BTW, how long would YOU stay at your job if all your earnings were taxed away? Okay, you can go back to LYAO now... :-)

You need to define "fair share". The top 1% of wage earners currently earn 19% of all wages, yet they pay 35% of all taxes. Again, what is a "fair share"?

My comment was based upon the extreme of confiscating ALL their earnings above $250k. But even if that was done it would not solve anything regarding "the mess we are in".

The FairTax would have everyone paying the same sales tax on the same good or service. Nobody at Walmart is gonna ask you how much you made last year, or if you own or rent your home, or how many kids you have when you pay for an item at the check out counter. That's why its fair. You, me Oprah, Bill Gates, Warren Buffett or his secretary all will pay the same sales tax for the same item. How much more "fair" do you want?
