Depends on if you arespeaking of light or ink/paint. Light would be black, paint/ink would be white.

    paint/crayons/markers
    well duah with light
if there is no light, you wouldnt be able to see color!!! lol

    Exactly. :)
But there are two color spectrums: CMYK and RGB. One is for Ink/Crayons etc, the other is for Light, so it depends!

Whenever you see a color, it is the wavelength of light that is not absorbed by the object. For instance, a green ball would absorb the blue and red light, and reflect the green light, so you see the green light, not the red or blue light.
White is the color you perceive when light hits an object and ALL the pigments bounce off to be perceived by your eyes.
Black is the color you perceive when NONE of the pigments reflect. Black absorbs the light, so black is what you see in the absence of light and therefore color, because color is simply a product of light either reflecting or being absorbed by the object.

By light I don't mean it glows. I mean light in the environment bounces off it. It's how you see everything; it doesn't glow. Without light there is not color because color is a product of how light works. So white is all color, black is the absence of color.

have you ever taken an ink pen and put the ink on a paper towel, and put part of the paper towel in water, so the water gets absorbed and when it reaches the ink, the ink dilutes and you can see all the colors.
    try it.

That's refraction in a thin film. It deals with incoming light hitting a surface, not the other way around.

im not talking about light. i dont care about light. i take chem, i know all that.
im looking for popinions, not little facts.
besides, on the vl spectrum, you can only see with the naked eye, the blue to yellow palate.
radiation. learned that in chem, too.

but back to WHAT I ASKED!!! black vs white. which is color, which is absense of color.

Colour is light dumbass. This is basic high school physics. And it doesn't matter whether you're looking for opinions, this is science. Opinions don't mean jack shit.

Black is the absence of light, i.e. colour.

oh? well then let's apply some common knowledge
why arent "rays of sun" white?
    why arent blacklights white?
why doesnt paper help me see in the dark?
why cant i take any color and make white, but i can with black?
why can i see in the dark, if there's no light?
why are pupils black, if black is the absent of light, and you need light to see?
why do we write in black on white paper, if white helps you see because it's "light", then shouldnt we write in white on black paper?

    Let's tackle these in order:

    They are. http://www.misconceptionjunct...

    They emit violet light.

You need an incoming light source.

    You're talking nonsense.

Go into a deep cave and turn off your flashlight.

Your pupils don't emit light. Also, the reflection of light from the retina and back out the pupil is what causes red eye in photographs.

    Again, you're talking gibberish.

I suppose a black hole would epitomise the absence of colour- along with anything else. To my mind I tend to think of muddy brown in the same fashion. black hole epitomise absence colour- mind muddy brown fashion mud

Brown is made by mixing complementary colours. It's hardly the same thing as black.
