From the evolutionary record the Egg came from early amphibian tetrapods whose eggs developed a hard shell. The chicken is a bird and birds have a common ancestor as a Maniraptoran dinosaur and is a decedent of the earlier tetrapods that laid eggs. Therefore the egg came before the chicken.

Depends... are you talking about hard shelled eggs or do soft shelled eggs such as fish eggs count?

Soft shelled eggs, then amphibian tetrapod, then hard shelleed eggs.

No it did not. It was born to an animal that was very very similar to a chicken but not quite since the egg being laid was just different enough to be considered a new species from its much earlier ancestors. Evolution.
