When you were/are in junior high or high school, did the entire class have to shower together after PE class?

When I was in junior high school and high school, the PE class always showered after class, in those big "gang" showers built for use by many people simultaneously. Of course, the boys and girls were in separate classes and locker rooms!! Ha ha ha. Anyway, when my sons reached junior high-age i was shocked to learn that kids don't shower after PE class any more. Not showering wasn't really an option when i was in junior high/high school, but the thought of going to other classes after working up a big ol' sweat and not showering is just abhorrent to me! What happened to personal hygiene?

From 1984 to 1990 I was in middle school and high school. The rule was, if you had a class after PE, you had to shower. If you refused to shower, it counted against your grade.

I don't go to a "traditional" high school, but during dance class. I have to dress in front of other girls.

They would switch between saying OPTIONAL and MANDATORY. I would usually sneak out of it, I DO NOT/WILL NOT shower with others, (unless a sexy female)!

really? sounds like a horror movie: teenagers all together naked; everybody (except a few prematurely aging) freaking out about their bodies ... ha ha ha!

    Not in my class, anyhow.

The beauty of my high school was that there were different forms of PE. You could have taken something like Outdoor Education, where you're always outside and you didn't have to shower. I chose Aquatics, a form of PE centered around swimming (because I knew I could perform better as opposed to regular PE), and we still had to shower, but we had our trunks on, and afterwards we could just change and keep ourselves covered.

The showers in my high school's locker room are all separate with curtains anyway (which doesn't really stop people from opening it while you're in there, but it's something).

I wouldn't have minded showering at school, it's the fact that I would have had to do so with other guys, most of which likely tougher than me!

(by the way, no one ever really noticed me smelling like chlorine every class.)

We had 5 minutes from the time we were released from P.E to get to our next class. Normally it was 3 minutes but in gym we were let out two minutes early to change. If I had more time I would've. It was pretty uncomfortable sitting in classes after gym with my hair and skin all gross from sweating. We had the stall showers with no doors and the big group shower.

They're not necessary when all you do is stand around or walk. All the schools I've been to don't even have showers.
I suppose it's a good thing we don't anymore, the last thing kids need are more reasons to be harassed.

we had showers, but no one ever used them. in the middle school, they werent even private. there was no door, no curtains between them, no privacy whatsoever. at the high school, you barely had time to change let alone shower
