last fall I bought a beer for using in a recipe, drank in bars 8 years and never got carded, then get it at the grocery store 23 years after I quit drinking, weird.. it was amusing, they do it to everybody regardless of appearance.

About a month ago when I was with my boyfriend who was buying beer. The legal age to drink in Australia is 18 and I'm almost 25. My boyfriend, who is 7 months younger than me, and who was the one actually buying the beer, didn't get carded! Also, the girl at the counter was most definitely younger than me.

Then again, at my last workplace I only worked weekends because of uni and one of the women I worked closely with for a whole year thought I was in high school! She quit and came back to visit us at work 6 months later and asked me when I would graduate and I said "oh, I've still got two more years", to which she responded, with an understandably puzzled look on her face, "how old are you??". When I told her I was 24 it dawned on her for the first time that I wasn't in high school. -.- A year I worked with that woman!

Until quite recently, Britain didn't really care about checking ID. It was normal for 15-year-olds to get served in pubs.
Then we became stricter. I got turned away from a pub, aged 31, because I only had my Navy ID, and they wouldn't accept it. Ironically, I'd been drinking in the pub for 10 years, but the bouncer didn't know me!

Yeah, European drinking culture is a lot different from America's. Most people over about 15 drink regularly in Brtain - and on the continent they're even less strict!

Less minors than who? Most of our minors over 15 drink! It's just that in France/Italy/Spain etc wine is something you start drinking when you're 4 or 5 years old. Their people are rarely sober!

I may be exaggerating a little, but I do know that 4-year-olds in France often drink wine. And it's normal for people there to drink during the morning, and in lunch breaks from work! I've visited America several times, and from what I've seen, America's views on alcohol are very different from the rest of the world's.

So, I'd assume we are stricter than most? I'd almost wonder if in France they feel it is good for the spirit & health. I mean, I look at wine that way, but rarely ever drink it. But perhaps they feel it's beneficial to them. Whatever the case may be I couldn't imagine a child drinking it.

Yeah, the US is definitely the strictest place I've seen! In places like France, it's not a matter of health, or of whether or not you drink; it's just about how much. Alcohol is totally ingrained in their daily lives. Britain isn't quite like that, but we do drink a lot more than Americans.

Like 2 months ago. I AM underage though lol. It was my friend's birthday and a bunch of us were supposed to meet for drinks. Everyone there was in their mid-20's so they got in no problem. The guy asked me for ID and I just straight up told him that I was 16 but that the entire party couldn't just relocate for me. It took a while but I finally convinced him to let me in. He said if he saw me with a drink, I'd "go flying". I still don't know what that means lmfao xD Go flying..wtf??
Anyway, I still managed to sneak in a shot and a couple sips of others' drinks even though his eyes were glued to me almost the entire night!
