I like the long version of Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald. It's got a good tune and an interesting story. I think that if it's just the same line over and over then, it get's real tired real fast.

I don't think there is a prescribed time limit. . .look at "Hey Jude" or "Stairway to Heaven." And ironically, in many live shows, bands are encouraged by fans to continue on and on. . . .Music is what it is and the only limitations are more to musicality than just how many minutes have elapsed.

"American Pie" Don McClean - 1970 over 8 minutes long, could have gone for 30 and wouldnt be a problem. Depends on the song writem the singer and the story. American Pie broke all sorts of rules, didn't matter - one of the best songs of its century.

when i went 2 c HIM in concert last oct. VILLE said they were going 2 play sleepwalking past hope so if anyone needed 2 go 2 the bathroom they should go now because they would still b playing that song when they came back.lol

yeah they r eally awesome on stage. i saw them at projekt rev. tour last year and then i saw them again at this small club in dallas. it was amazing

I was going to vote six minutes- I can tolerate six minutes with some good instrumental solos, but more than that just kills it. Then again, Pink Floyd's Shine On You Crazy Diamond is a good twelve minutes and one of my favorite songs. I think it depends on the content.

See, I'm a DJ - I thrive on the differences in the lengths of songs.
Long song = cigarette or pee break
Short song = good filler when you only have 2 or 3 minutes left...the boss is watching, and you don't want to pack up early.

Yeah, the Greenday song be Homecoming & Jesus of Surburbia. They're both great tracks, & they're all kinda made up of little mini songs all linked together in some way. Its quite genius =]

When you get tired of hearing it. I love a good 20 minute song, but some people might like it wrapped up in under 4. Its all a matter of individual taste.

never! i know of a few songs that are really long. actually theres a greenday song ((and if you don't like greenday, don't tell me they suck, because i really don't care) that is about 10 minutes long and its pretty cool i think. its very random
