When a spider suddenly comes out of nowhere, does it usually make you jump?

Yes.
Nope.
I think...
You!

I don't suffer with arachnophobia and I even used to handle my friend's tarantula, but I was just doing some clearing out and as I pulled a box out a massive spider came out of nowhere and made me jump. My heart beat increased by at least a thousand. lol

I usually catch them and feed them, or put them outside.
    Spiders are fun.

it is not necessarily the spider but the suddeness. I usaully tell them I'll kill them come within reach of me again - after all they kill other bugs. I realize the don't speak English and I also realize that if it was big like a tarantula, I'd gently but firmly put it out the door.

I live in a house infested with spiders and there is nothing we can do to get rid of them (so I carry around bug spray everywhere I go). But when I see one come from nowhere I still jump a little. Found one the other night living in a hole by the towel rack and I sprayed him after he scared the shtuff out of me.

Jump is a bit of an understatement.
    jump understatement fainting

Although once I get over my initial fear I'll probably catch it and release it. Or if it's really big, get someone else to catch it and release it.

They may be super intelligent little insects..but man..I can't stand them! I don't kill them though, I shove them into a jar and set them free.
If there's anything worse than a spider scuttling past you, it's a spider squashed into the floor..

kill shove jar free spider scuttling spider squashed floor
I'd have a heart attack if I saw one this big!

It depends. If one pops up out of my car airconditioning system, I usually have time to see it and determine whether or not it is dangerous. If it's not, I remain cool unless it looks like getting onto me; then, even if I know it to be harmless, I jump. However, if I walk through the garden in the morning and encounter a spider in its web, I'm not bothered because if they are residing out in the open, they are invariably harmless.

If, on the other hand, I turn a rock and I see movement, I'm off! Because it could be a Sydney Funnelweb. Death very soon if help can't quickly be obtained. We have quite a few nasties here, but when it comes to spiders, it is the worst - especially the female from the perspective of its ability to inject a lethal dose. However, in spring the males are on the prowl and can get into boots, shoes or bedware and become more dangerous because of the liklihood of one turniing up where you don't want him.

National Geographic featured the Brown Recluse on World's Deadliest Animals last night, very disturbing critters they are, glad they are not a part of my local fauna, or else I would be relocating.

Have a customer that was bitten by a recluse near a fresh tattoo...the poison spread like wildfire! Nearly ate his tattoo off and cost him his life! He thought is was the tattoo until he went to the hospital and they found the bite mark...he called back and apologized.
    But that''s a nasty pic!

If you can get that chummy with any spider, you surely don't have arachnophobia!
