    Excuse myself politely giving no indication that I am leaving. Send her a text telling to invite the person that she is talking to dinner because she's suddenly dining alone and end the message with ....."deuces"

    I would only go to dinner with them once! After that hit the highway and deal with your cell phone!

    I'd walk out, no question about it. Rude behaviour like that is not going to be put up with.

    I won't go. My very best friend in the whole world is one of the worst about that. She figured it out when I left halfway through our a recent lunch. She said I have to take this and was gone for 15 min. I paid our bill and left. She called me later and said what happened. My response was "Oh I didn't figure you would notice". She called me back and apologised and now leaves her cell in the car when we meet. Happy ending!

    There is NO EXCUSE for being rude and being on a cell phone while you are in a face to face situation IS rude.

    If it's one or two important calls (like from the babysitter or the doctor), okay. Beyond that, it's just rude ... they don't need me around to continuously yak with someone else.

    If it happens once, things happens. If it's constant, then I'll be at the bar, racking up thier dinner tab before I leave.

    I'd probably give the person one warning;

    "You know that's kinda rude, right?"

    If they didn't get the point after that, then I'd skedaddle, text message optional.

    I find it a little irritating. Unless it's something that can't be avoided (entirely unexpected), I would likely say something to them.
