At least in my opinion. They do FAR better on aggression tests than chihuahuas or chows and do great with children. Of course the best option is to just go to your local shelter and see who you fall in love with. NEVER buy, always ADOPT.

Out of those choices a pit bull would be best. They have very sound temperaments especially with children. They would be a good choice over all for a family with children. They need exercise and mental stimulation though, or else they become bored, restless, and may want to chew furniture, ect. Any breed can be good with kids though, as dogs are individuals and just as a person's color doesn't define them, nor does a dog's breed.

It depends highly on the little girl's personality and the "dog knowledge" of the person who will be in charge of the dog, but most girls want to hug their dogs and cuddle them. Pits tend to be very receptive to cuddles and hugs and are generally very tolerant of children's tugging, pulling, poking and squeezing. Chihuahuas tend to be nippy and are frequently very aggressive (small dog syndrome), and chows don't usually have a high tolerance for children. There are always exceptions to every rule, but your best bet would be a pit bull, and PLEASE spay or neuter. It prevents sexual competitiveness and related aggression.

I got my dog when I was 8 years old (I'm 17 now -- she just turned 8). She's a Bichon Frise. They're great. They're loveable, they DON'T SHED, they're hypoallergenic (people with allergies aren't allergic to them), and they're ADORABLE.

There really is not a all around standard answer to that. It varies with the individual child and the individual dog (not necessarily breed specific.)
    (By the way... it's chihuahua.)

I adopted a Rat Terrier/Beagle mix. They aren't too big, about 25 lbs. Lots of energy and love to cuddle. A good dog for a girl. :-)

There are various wonderful dogs for little girls and/or boys.

The dog should be chosen together with the child, according to the situation, space and organisation of the family, from a good shelter or qualified breeder.

It is quite a responsibility to care for a dog and a part of education. Remember, a dog is not a toy to be disposed of after use ...

Chows are very problematic, especially for kids; they're adorable looking but they're not a cuddly little kid dog. They tend to be one person loyal, dominate and nippy. I think pitbulls can be wonderful dogs, depends on the owner. My nieces have Chihuahuas; they can be wonderful little dogs but can also be high strung and yappy so it all depends.

My pick is the breed I own, Goldendoodle (standard poodle/golden retriever cross); I did a lot of research before choosing this dog. Koda the Goldendoodle

Everyone who owns or has met this breed will tell you what a fantastic temperment they have; easygoing, love their family, just a joy to have around...but I also agree that the best way to go is to go find your new family member at your local shelter or SPCA...

A mixed-breed, medium-sized dog for young children. Their temperament is usually better than pure-breds. Small children can be very rough on the miniature breeds, either intentionally or just accidentally.

Last Christmas we got our granddaughter a deer-faced chihuahua named Odie. She kept the name and he's part of the family now. She loves him and still says it's the best Christmas present ever.
I usually don't like such small dogs, but the deer-faced are a little larger and he's more like a smaller dog than a chihuahua.

Great Dane. When my friend came to visit with her 3 year old I could just tell him to watch her and we'd let them go outside together. I lived on a creek and he would steer her away from it if she wandered towards it and keep her in the yard. He would also patiently guard her while she laid down for a nap on him. Beautiful, gentle and noble dog.

Depends on the little girl. Cutesie, a spaniel, Tomboy, Shepard or Lab, studious, Corgy or Basset Hound. Remember, match the personalities of the owner and the dog, otherwise it becomes a mess. Also, make sure she understands the responsibilities that she needs to carry out each and every day. Pets are like children that live short, but good lives enriching ours, but in turn enriching theirs too. If it's her dog, she has to be pack leader, or the dog will become alpha instead.
