Burning the Flag is something that is defended by the Supreme Court categorized under Freedom of Speech.

Book burning has a negative connotation from previous events in history. There's nothing more offensive than someone trying to keep a person or group of persons ignorant and in the dark about the horrors and joys of life and history. Book burning is an attempt to control.

How dare you burn something with words? People need to be reading as much as possible. I see no one reading books anymore!

Not everyone has what to be patriotic about. I'm fairly certain many citizens of many countries hate their country, or rather their governments which is typically what nationalism and patriotism are used to support.

burning books indicates ignorance and darkness
while burning flag is done by either your enemies or betrayer and both of them you won't be sorry for as long as you have a book in you left hand and the sword in the other!

ALWAYS...........Books are a Lot lot more valuable than flag
Books can be valuable internationally while flag is only symbol of patriotism.......and by burning Flag they cant take the flam of Patriotism from me

While the Flag can be discribed as "only a symbol" and the book to be a "storage vessle of knowledg" think of it this way.
Knowledge is valuable and often takes years not just to discover and refine, assimilate and dissiminate. It enriches our lives and adds value to our culture(s). It is a very precious comodity. But knowledge must be protected to be preserved, and knowledge can not protect itself.

The Flag, while "only" a symbol, is the symbol of the Nation whose laws and bodies stand between knowledge and barbarism. By destroying that Flag, that symbol, even in protest of some act deemed unlawful or unethical the protestor is displaying disrespect not just for that act, but for All that that symbol represents.

There is no discernment to be found in a person or persons who show such disregard when profaining the symbols of the guarantor of laws and institutions they claim to speek in favouror or place of.

I meant to hit "books" only because they contain knowledge. "The Flag" works just as well I suppose...
Personally I think anyone who wants to burn either is idiot but hey, have at it.

Burning books discloses the narrow mindedness of those doing the burning and they place themselves as judge and jury.
