However, when my book was published, I was advised to use my middle initial as there was an author with my name already

Only because there are so many authors, there is less likely to be two with the exact same name... ;)

I think the middle category ought to be written as" Cregg S. Hardwick ", plain jane has a different given name, not configuration.

I like it just like you have it in your user name. It parses like an instruction, "See Stuart Hardwick."

Let us know when your book hits the best seller list.

I think the hybrid one really has some panache. Most people use first name, middle initial and last name, or initials and last name. Using first initial, middle name and last name makes the name stand out better and makes it more memorable.

I mean, mine will be a first and last name, but initials are good. Look how nicely JK Rowling's name rolls off the tongue, for example.

That's why I asked though. I think people tend to be color-blind about their names. My sister is names Marta, and she always hated it and went by her middle name, but I thought it a fine name.

Sometimes, what doesn't seem to "roll" can have great impact. Think of "George C Scott" which pretty much makes you do a full stop--and that's a fabricated stage name.

Lots of the fabricated names are designed to have that impact. LOL- just don't use Englebert Humperdinck as your nom de plume I think it's taken.

The initials thing does seem to work well. Michael J Fox invented that J just for flow.
    Then of course there is C S Lewis, P D James, E E Cummings, E M Forrester, J K Rowling.....it's obviously a good way to go.
