What would you do if you saw your neighbor's kid shooting a bb gun or throwing rocks at the neighborhood cat? Would you tell the parents?

I don't like cats, so compared to what we did to cats growing up, shoting it with a bb gun, i guess makes for good target preactice for bigger game.

In this day and age, spanking a kid that's not your own would just land you in jail.

IMO it would be wiser to contact the police and the parents.

Not only tell the brainless parents who raised these "winners" but I would also find them, hopefully in a dark alley and shoved the bb gun up to where the sun never shines.

I would tell the parents right after I escorted his happy self to their home and presented him in person. A warning to those who have not done this before, I have been the subjet of much verbal abuse from such a child and then his or her parents for bringing the miscreant home and pointing out their behavior to the parents. It never ceases to amaze me the number of adults who will defend their child's action, no matter what. After all that is finished, by the cat a b.b. gun and let the kitty take pot shots at the little tyke !

i would go out and say what did that poor cat ever do 2 you. then i would have my mom call the parents of that child, and also i would tell the kid that he had bad aim!!!

I would grab that soon to be serial killer and march him right to his parents..and tell them..which then they would bring out their big old shotguns and shoot me!

Duh! Anyone who wouldn't take steps to have this little brat taken care of would be as guilty as he in animal abuse. I can't believe there would be any problem making such a decision. If the parents wouldn't take it seriously maybe the local police would...or the ASPCA...there are laws against shooting at living creatures.

Most definitely tell the parents. Children should all be taught to treat animals kindly. If the parents laughed it off and did not care, or it happend again after talking to the parents I would report it to the police & the SPCA.

The bb gun as long as it isn't high powered is fun...remember as a child the wild rabbits...it wouldn't hurt them but would startle them and make them jump about 4 or 5 feet straight up before they took off quickly! Throwing rocks could hurt the animal and leave bad damage! That is the ONLY reason I would say to say something! When you tell someone to stop and they get progressively worse it starts leading to more illegal mannered things!

i'd tell the parents. actually i had to do that myself recently. a kid kept ringing my doorbell and making my dogs bark. after finding out who it was - i went and told his mom. geesh - i can't believe i ratted out an 8yo. however - it has stopped.

Not for nothing, this kid may need psychiatric help, and if the parents give you s&^t for telling them their kid is hurting small animals, well they probably need help too. It takes two to make a child but a community to raise a child, this is an old saying that still holds true, children are a product of their entire community not just the parents....

This is actually a tough one. My personal approach would be to attempt to remove the cat from harm's way. I would then tell the kid's parents and quite frankly, after finding the cat's owner (if possible) tell them as well. My opinion of what effect this would have? Well, this is where my past experience jades me a little - more often than not the kid's parents will simply be mad at you for poking your nose into what they consider their business and telling them how to do "their job" (which obviously, someone really DOES need to tell them lol). The odds that they'll do anything more than simply take that anger out on you in an argument are pretty slim - so 8 times out of ten you're only wasting your breath. Get the animal out of harm's way, that is the most important thing, then tell the owner exactly who was attacking his pet and how and then let them decide how best they would like to deal with it.
