They would have severe esophageal complications which would then become stomach and colon complications. And without medical help they would probably die slowly and very painfully. It would be hell on earth for that person.

i don't think it would harden because it couldn't dry. there would definitely be severe burns to the esophagus. probably severe constipation. i don't know if death would be imminent but i'm sure the desire to die would be.
