I delivered 40 newspapers a day on my bicycle, 6 mornings a week for $0.99 (that's 99 cents). I was 11. A Coke cost 5 cents, candy bars were 5 cents. For 99 cents I could buy 99 Tootsie Rolls.

At 17, after graduating from high school, I went to work in a local shoe factory for $0.95/hour (minimum wage in 1964). Gas cost 26 cents/gallon. My first car, a 1951 Chevy, cost $45.

Working for my father in his clinic was my first job. It mostly involved changing if bandages and cleaning stalls but it's what gave me the bug to become a vet.

I was a library page. I shelved books and processed new books. It was a decent first job. I didn't hate it and I didn't have to deal with rude people (most of the time).

Norman, I remember the good old days when candy bars were 5 cents! Boy that was a while ago. It's a shame that just last night at a convience store gas station, I paid $1.79 for a candy bar. At Walmart, the same candy bar is $1. Boy how much things have gone up in price and how overcharged we are by some places.

My first "on the books" job was at a local amusement park, I worked the booth with the machine gun (BB) where you tried to shoot out all of the red star to win a prize. As a fifteen year old I had to deal with a bunch of pissy older guys who got upset when I showed them their cards with bits of red ink left on them, sore frigging losers. But other than that it was a fun job, great way to meet girls as well.

shoveling cow sh_t out of cattle trailers. I earned $5/trailer...that's 40'x8' plus an upper deck which was about 20'x8'. And I loved it caused I got to run a little bulldozer to keep the sh_t piles from spreading out too much.

Game barker at Paramount's King's Island in Nickelodeon. It was certainly a fun job, except when I was out with a bunch of other people peeling melted water balloons off of the concrete.

My first job is my current job. I do general labor at a train bearing reconditioning factory. It's laid back, dirty work, and I should be paid more than I am, but it's a job atleast. Been there two years, and I think I'm ready for a change.
