I delivered 40 newspapers a day on my bicycle, 6 mornings a week for $0.99 (that's 99 cents). I was 11. A Coke cost 5 cents, candy bars were 5 cents. For 99 cents I could buy 99 Tootsie Rolls.

At 17, after graduating from high school, I went to work in a local shoe factory for $0.95/hour (minimum wage in 1964). Gas cost 26 cents/gallon. My first car, a 1951 Chevy, cost $45.

Working in the library over the summer. I organized and put away things (books, dvds, music). Sometimes on Sundays I would also go in to do some reading to the kids that went.

Waitress $2.25 an hour plus tips and Golden Corral BEFORE the buffet. Most fun I ever had. I probably had more money then, too.

At nine WOW! I babysit 9 year olds. Not sure I would trust the maturity level on a kid of that age with a younger kid! LOL.

It worked back then because my family lived nearby and would be there in a heartbeat if they were needed.

Bagger in a grocery store when I was fourteen. Now, at sixteen, I bag, cashier, answer phones, make balloons, and face shelves. I make $8/hour.

My first job was in a cafe " Country Kitchen". I was the waitress, fountain clerk, dishwasher, and short order cook for $4.00 a week and tips. I was on parole and living in a halfway house owned by the same people that I worked for, seems they got me for very cheap and they didn't report my work either. Bunch of crooks!

That's what I was thinkg too (the hay bailing), although I NEVER got to drive the tractor. And if you consider supper "payment", then I suppose I got paid.

Yeah I asked my dad that once. "How come I don't get paid?" He said " You got a roof over your head and food on the table."
I didn't like his answer but now that I have a daughter and I hear the same things come out of her mouth I understand his logic... :)
