Especially the advent of agriculture and civilization. NONE of the other feats could have happened if humans hadn't decided to come together as one species and collaborate on ideas and resources.

Those are all great acheivements, but if they stop all the constant fighting then I'd really be impressed.

Our continual ability to change ourselves and our environments. We may just be a little too good at that last one.

While all the items listed were important within themselves I think the most important of all is health care. In the not to distant past life expectancy was somewhere in the 30's or 40's. That has been extended now to well into the 80's, assuming you take care of yourself, but most importantly because the health care industry gives us those extra years. The discovery of what our bodies are all about and then how to keep them going has to be one of the most beneficial things for all of mankind.

They're all great feats, but I have to say travelling to the moon because it's still something considered absolutely awe-striking. Think about it: we live in a universe where our species has walked on the surface of another object averagely about 380,000km away, where there's low gravity and no atmosphere. Putting a man on the moon will, one day, be considered the first step in creating a space-faring human race. More people in the world know about the moonwalk than anything else on the list.

Harnessing electricity to our benefit. Pretty incredible! None of the things above would be possible without that.

I know! Absolutely stunning! But if you had to choose would you choose to have those amazing structures or would you choose harnessing electricity? We couldn't even be chatting right now with out it! :) I choose electricity.

Man's search for Truth led to all of the above: “The only real revolution is in the enlightenment of the mind and the improvement of character, the only real emancipation is individual, and the only real revolutionists are philosophers and saints.” From "The Lessons of History" by the Durants.

Currently, it has to be the eradication of Smallpox. For so many countries and people to team together to remove this disease from our planet is truly breathtaking.

What WILL be the greatest feat of humankind? When we finally begin to colonise other planets - because only then will we have achieved an almost guaranteed immunity to extinction.

As it has accelerated R+D worldwide through the means of information sharing and cooperative working.

It is also a tool being used at the forefront of social and governmental reform...
