The rating system as we know it toooday has only been around since 1968. Midnight Cowboy, Last Tango in Paris, and A Clockwork Orange were filmed or released around the same time. Which one I saw first I am not really sure, but it wwas one of them.

I played in the pit orchestra for the musical at my college, and that very same semester the movie came out. I just had to see it, especially with Johnny Depp as Sweeney Todd.

I can't remember the name... I'm not sure if it was even rated R. But it was a weird movie with cartoon characters that wanted to turn the entire real world into a cartoon. But there was a lot of animated nudity and it was not a kids movie. Yeah, this was one of those films you picked out when you were a kid not realizing what it was... so I was pretty young at the time.

Paranormal Activity. My initial reaction: I waited thirteen years for R quality entertainment, and all they could come up with was this?!?!?

Luckily, I soon realized it wasn't all R movies that were dumb, just a few franchises.

I don't think movies had ratings when I first started watching them, and it's hard to remember that long ago, but the earliest R-rated movie I saw is probably Papillon.
