I have a homemade desktop which is dual boot: Win XP and The Ultimate Edition Linux 2.2; I also have a notebook which is also dual boot - Vista 64 bit version and again, The Ultimate Edition Linux 2.2. None of my computers are old pieces of junk as the boot right up.
I repair computers as a hobby and like teasing people about having an old computer. I'll tell them, "Your computer is soooooo old that your smiley faces have wrinkles on them!" -or- "Your computer is soooooo old that it has a wooden hard drive!"
Oh, btw, I still have my first computer - a TI99/4A.
.
Well, I wanted a Mac but when I looked at the prices I could get a really nice Dell for the price of the standard Mac. I'm just not cool enough to be a Mac person. So I have a Dell - but a very nice, fast Dell. :)
I have 5, an old G3 Mac that is 20 years old and still being used in my studio
two G5 desk tops
and two 17" MacBook Pros one is three years old the other I just bought about 6 months ago
and in 20 years I have never had a crash or virus
I had to replace the power supply in the G3 about 3 years ago found one on ebay for $50.
and I had to have the monitor ribbon cable replaced on my older MacBook pro about the time I bought the new one, cost me $45.00
haha, I have 4 running comps (plugged in and on) I have one deskbook that's on too, I have a few 2 and 3 U rackmount servers upstairs, 2 1U servers colo'd in Chicago, and 3 in Dallas, ummm, ummmm, dang, i just drew a blank...
I only have three networked, they are used primarily for photo and video editing Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, 3-D max etc. and fortunately they are in the same studio in one state LOL although I do take my lap top on the road when I travel
How did you get by with no virus or Crash????? Help me out here I just paid $60.00 to get virus's off mine and it shuts down mor than it is on what service do you have?
Are you on a Mac? Years ago when Macs OS system was still OS9 I would occasionally get locked up and have to restart, but I haven't had a lock up in years and I run some pretty intensive CPU taxing, memory hog, video editing and graphics software. And a lot of the time I may be working on two or three projects at once. I am rendering some 3-D animation graphics as we speak. Dont get me wrong Macs can get viruses but they are rare, like I said I have never had one. And I dont know anyone personally who uses Macs that have had one.
Yes, if you ever go Mac you'll never go Bac LOL Seriously, dont let the prices scare you, Macs are great machines, and if you compare apples to apples (no pun intended) you will see that the prices are nearly the same plus, they have a much higher resale value, and can be used for any application you could need. They are just better built machines and by far will out last pcs The OS system may have a small learning curve but once you get the hang of it you will find it is much more user friendly than any pc. on the newer models you can even still run windows although I dont know why anyone would, the Mac OS is much more stable than windows could ever hope to be. I can give you example after example of people I know who have always owned Macs and people who have had PCs that switched to Macs and never looked back. I know two people who have made their living working on and using computers that were pc users that were force to start using to macs because of clients that owned them, and they have become hooked and dont even own pcs any longer. One in particular is my wife's uncle who has a business that sets up and maintains networks for doctors offices, he has a client base of over 500 people and it was one of these doctors that had his office set up to use macs so Joe was force to b...

Yet he still has to constantly replace or repair pcs that other clients that use them that wont change to Macs. He is actually thankful for those because it keeps him busy LOL
Souds like the Maytag guys he'd get bored ha ha! I thinl I might check into it I have heard it said that maybe Micorosoft creates Viruses some times just to sell a new product? don't know but guess it could be ! In this day and time anyway.
Go to apples website and look for the refurbished Macs, they are great deals and carry the same warranty as a new one, I bought my first 17" Macbook pro laptop refurbished, new they were $2500.00 I got it for $1855.00 Another thing apples customer service and tech support is the best I have seen, that is "if" you ever have to use them! Good luck
I use AVG's antivirus and Webroot's SpySweeper and the last time I got a virus was about 6 years ago when I clicked on something I should have scanned first LOL...
I paid for it and think it's well worth the 30 odd bucks, of course as with anything "your mileage may vary".... as a computer tech and a PC Business owner though, I highly recommend it...
It´s Fantastic!!!
Lab top!
