Exactly! We are told to fear terrorists and I am bright enough to fear helmeted police with pepper spray. I fear scarcity and hunger, I fear global warming and floods, I fear anthrax and illegal aliens, I fear inflation and I fear planned obsolescence, I fear loneliness and growing old. But connected to all those fears and the source of most is our government.
I have been conditioned by the government to be afraid at all times. The indoctrination has intensified since 9/11 but long before that I was told to be afraid of any communists. Even today calling someone a commie is a bad thing. Before that it was the Nazis, and for the past few decades we had this war on drugs. That is the best way to control a population, keep them in fear and the government as the protector. We gladly give up our rights, our liberty because our protector needs to be able to listen to our phone calls, read our emails, video record us everywhere we go, enter our homes without a warrant while we are not home, detain us indefinitely in jail without being indicted, charged, arraigned or in many cases just shipped off through special rendition to another country where we are never heard from again.
I have been afraid since the bailout that we are being conned and lied to, bilked out of our hard earned money to transfer it to the already wealthy bankers and even watched the CEOs who ruined our economy give themselves bonuses. But I'm afraid to list all I know of that I'm afraid of. I'm afraid of being called a rabble-rouser, trouble maker, radical or conspiracy theorist. Shhhhhhh
