Every time I look at this
People my age think I am weird. I can't get a boyfriend. I feel trapped in the town I live in. I want to be drop dead gorgeous but I am just this cute, girl next door type of girl. Just pretty not beautiful.
I really want to leave Ocala and publish my story, The Street Walker and other stories I write. And get a boyfriend.
People are always going to think something of us, we just can't change that. What we can change is what we allow to bother us. If they say something or give you odd looks, just tell yourself to hold your head that much higher because you're not a cookie cutter person, you are unique, your own person.
If it's your dream to get away, give school 110% so you can have an education that will help get you out of there. Don't look at your life as being doomed, just yet, you got lots of time...now you just need a lil' patience :-)
I get frustrated a lot.
Plus isn't Jennifer Aniston the girls next door type of woman? I don't find her to be beautiful to be honest with you.
But she gives average looking women hope that we can make it into Hollywood too.
I look at pictures of Old Hollywood starlets and I get jealous because they were so so beautiful. Especially Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Jayne Mansfield, Joanna Moore(the woman who played Peggy off of Andy Griffith Show, Ryan O'Neal's ex wife and Tatum O'Neal's mother if you know who she is), Audrey Hepburn,Jane Fonda, Farrah Fawcett, Raquel Welch, Ursula Andress, Bianca Jagger, Dorothy Danedridge etc.
I envy the women that are naturally beautiful. No effort, no make up, they were just blessed with good genes! Those are the ones I'd like to be like.
And it is rare to see beautiful women in Hollywood these days. Beyonce is beautiful but she has had many surgeries and to me, she is not a natural beauty. As a Black girl, I am pressured to look like Beyonce but she is not natural.
I don't want to look like her if it means changing the way that I look. I know Beyonce did and it isn't right.
Most celebrities, today, have gotten many plastic surgeries.
I feel the pressure to wear a weave or relax my hair often. I have just gotten out of wearing weaves because of my thin edges.
Yes I do have self esteem issues but I am tryng to be confident. I want to get rid of my scarring from acne and razors. Then I would feel better.
I have seen a lot of Solange lately, love her hair & I'm glad that she and *some* other celebs are encouraging the natural look.
Just don't try to overcome everything overnight so you don't overwhelm yourself. Take baby steps & you'll get there. :-)
And the media is a driving force in people's lives and sometimes it isn't for the right reasons either.
Natural hair is portrayed as ugly and bad hair while straight hair is portrayed as good hair. The Black community passes this down to one generation to another. That is why we have 80% of Black women relax their hair or wear weaves.

I hope more and more Black women go natural.
