What kind of question do you prefer to answer: multiple-choice, or short answer?

Much as I enjoy the polls on sodahead, I find I am often frustrated by the limiting nature of multiple choice answers (ignoring the fact that you can always elaborate in a comment). So, I wonder if others share this perspective? Do you enjoy having things limited so that you need only pick a category in multiple choice, or prefer the ability to explain and justify your answer, and have a more nuanced or conditional answer in some cases?

I like the questions in all their forms, however when offering multiple choice, you often fail to offer "Other" as an option. What gives?

If I feel that the question with the answers has left things unsaid
then I leave extra comments to clairify my point of view, but there are
some questions that I like to see where I sit in relation to the rest
of the sodaheads. It is usually the yes/no questions.

I prefer having polls that get to the point with questions, so users can quickly determine their responses without being distracted or losing attention.

Good question! My biased answer: I prefer multiple choice ;)

I founded SodaHead with some friends and we designed it with multiple choice for several reasons. I do see the opportunity for us to expand into more open-ended questions and to do lots of fun stuff as time permits. We have a small team of developers and wanted to make the site live as quickly as possible. Please send me your suggestions and comments so we can make SodaHead the best site possible!
