What is your feeling on the "Debt Stalemate"?

Tau_Seti 2011/07/12 19:49:07

Just in from the Daily Beast

President Obama will not promise that Social Security checks will go out on August 3 unless a deficit-reduction deal is struck. "I cannot guarantee that those checks go out… There may simply not be enough money in the coffers to do it," he told Scott Pelley of CBS News on Tuesday. "This is not just a matter of Social Security checks," he explained. These are veterans' checks, these are folks on disability and their checks. There are about 70 million checks that go out." Meanwhile, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said that he does not think a significant reduction deal can be reached as long as Obama is in power. He said, "After years of discussions and months of negotiations, I have little question that as long as this president is in the Oval Office, a real solution is probably unattainable."

It's politics as usual in Washington neither party wants to do what is necessary to balance the Nations budget without increasing the debt ceiling, budget cuts across the board to every agency.

Don't get me wrong I don't have any more faith in the Democrats than I do in the Republicans. But honestly one more lifting of the debt ceiling at this point won't put us in much of a deeper hole than we are in now. The Democrats want to remove tax breaks for the wealth (who can afford them in my opinion). What they can't make do without buying another multi million dollart vacation home that they aren't going to spend more than 3 weeks a year in. Gimme a break. The Rrepublicans respond with thier assertion that it is the wealth that create the jobs. That was true once. Back in the old days the wealthy used thier wealth to build factories and fund research that was destined to improve the way we build and create things in America. They possessed a sense of responsinility to do something to give back to the community which did so much to get them where they were and due to a sense of morality they did so. Those days are gone however. The wealthiest of Americans don't possess this moral compass anymore. Greed is the name of the game now and there is no such thing as having enough. Oh they still invest thier money but it isn't invested in America anymore. They aren't building thier factories here anymore. All eyes are on investments and opportunities elsewhere. In other words the rich don't create jobs anymore. Not here anyway.
By the way, remember when Bush wanted to switch everyones Social Security accounts over to a fform where it would basicly be paid for our of investments in the stock ,market. Citing it would make the whole program far more solvent. Even profitable giver the magnitude of the success Wall Street consistently enjoyed. That was befor what they are now calling the Great Recession. When would my 85 year old grandmother who has alzheimer disease be now if he'd been successful. Where would my severely mentally retarded cousin who is currently 37yo but has the mind of a 4yo be. I take care of both of them now here in my own home. By myself while doing the best I can to eke out some kind of living at the same time. To say I am not able to be very successful at earning much is an understatement. Anyone who has taken care of people suffering such afflictions knows it is a full time and seldom rewarding job all by itself.
The only thing I want to hear from my government is that they are pulling out of the 3 wars we are wasting America's money on and cutting the balls off of any corporate entity that sends it's jobs overseas.
So, what do I think of the debt stalemate in Washington DC? I think it is a perfect example of children bickering and yelling mine, mine, mine." If I don't get my way then I'm gonna tear up your stuff so you won't have any toys either." They are a bunch of spoiled petty bastards and the only reason they got elected is because they got put there by the wealthy puppetiers who know they will do exactly what they are told. The people be damed.

If this is, somehow, potentially a necessary effect should there be no deal, then it's at least good that people be warned of the possibility.

I'm more inclined to believe it's a scare tactic. Poor form.

Since Obama was a freaking senator he has done nothing but demand spending. Even during the election, he was asked what he would cut, and he could not name one thing. Instead he mentioned things he thought needed much higher spending. He had the joke of a freaking stimulus, and while it is entitlements for perfectly able bodied people crushing this country, he adds another one. He has no grasp of reality.

What I think truly shows how big of a political HACK Obama is is the cuts in negotiations. Obama says he is willing to cut 4 trillion if he gets tax increases, and only 2 trillion if he does not. All this means is that there are clearly 4 trillion in cuts (Most of which are accounting tricks I am sure) that they can agree on, however the democrats are politcial freaking hacks that are more anxious in playing class warfare than they are actually solving anything. As they cry about cuts to cowboy poetry and liberal entertainment like NPR being cut. What a bunch of freaking clowns.

As far as raising taxes go, Until they show us they can be responsible with the tax revenues they already have they should not get another dime of tax increases. Those of us that actually pay taxes pay more in taxes than we do for our mortgage. That is absolutely ridiculous. Particularly when A VAST MAJORITY of it goes to lazy perfectly able bodied people that could take care of themselves, but choose to steal from others. On top of that they do not even appreciate it. Instead they are angry bitter entitlement junkies that attack and vilify those that actually pay for them. What a bunch of thieving pricks.

The Republicans voted for increases in the debit ceiling seven time under G W Bush without problem. Now a Democrat is president and the Republicans have a problem with it.. The Republicans require the Democrats to give blood and screw the poor to get a raise in the debit ceiling this time, which is by the way against the 14th amendment. You might think they are just being EVIL, but it really want to protect the taxes exemptions for the RICH. Only in America does the right to Freedom let the apposing side hold our right to Freedom hostage. Go figure? ............................(... they are Just being EVIL).

I wouldn't want to be where he is now, or if he were anyone else. The choices that have to be made will hurt many and unless you are part of an extended family of wealth get ready to take in your grandparents, parents, dead beat brother-in-law's kids, any disabled Veterans in your family and/or any chronically disable children or adults. Or, you could be like Any Rand and tell them all to go.....well.......you get the picture. There is no easy fix, the only question who gets hurt first and the most?

I so hope you are right. I have worked hard for what I can claim as my own, but without a particle of luck or God's Grace I am sure I could just as easily be somewhere else. Our success after WWII has indeed spoiled us, there was surplus and for the 30 yrs. after the war we kept voting more largesse, that largesse became waste and now we may be at some precipice. I hope for the sake of my child and the other children of this nation that we can back away from that.

I think the President could easily frame this as Republicans holding America hostage for the sake of the ultra wealthy. Let the Republicans force Amewica into default, and the Democrats will hold both houses of Congress and the White house for a generation.

But I don't think that's going to happen.

He does it every day and I hope and pray that the American people see thru this CHANGE he is trying to shove down our throats. Isn't it a little sad that when he held ALL 3 branches of government with very large majorities that they could not submit a budget not could they get much of anything thru congress. They did get thru the healthcare bill that Nancy said we had to pass so we could find out what was in it. Now the people know and really don't like it.

The Senate Democrats have a great plan to cut the deficit by $4 trillion.
The President is the Executive - it's up to Congress to work out the budget.

Think! If the deficit is the problem, why not reduce it by $4 trillion?
Think! Where are the jobs programs promised by the Republicans?
