Had to look that one up. According to the sources I found "General Gau's Chicken" is how those from Boston say "General Tso's Chicken." (Does that fit your understanding of it?)

If that is true, then yes, that is one my favorite (no so Chinese) Chinese dishes. I had my favorite Chinese restaurant make that for me once using fish instead of chicken. It came out absolutely delicious.

YUP! Boston! It was a toss-up on which to call it.

I can see where the sauce would be good with fish. Definately not a Chinese dish. I've been there twice - man it's SCARY what they will eat!

I haven't been to mainland China, but I have been to Hong Kong and Singapore a few times each. I am rather adventurous in my eating and to this day I don't know for sure what half the stuff was that I ate overseas. Never had any problems with any of it though.

Hong Kong food was much better.

China isn't too far away from extreme poverty, so NOTHING is wasted. That said, the hotel in Shanghai (forget the name) was fantastic. Shen Zhen was... not as good.

Funny how the franchises are everywhere - KFC is HUGE in Asia. I will confess to trying a Big Mac wherever I can to see if they are consistent around the world. They are very similar!

Every time I visited a foreign country, I would go into a McD's and check out the price of the Big Mac. (not to order but just for comparison) I would then run it through the currency conversion and use that as a basis for comparing the area economy and set the upper limit when bargaining with shop owners.
Then I would head out. I would continue until I saw nothing recognizable. At that point, I'd start looking for food and souvenirs.

As an aside, when I first visited he south, there was a part that I overheard being called, "the part that went over the fence" Anyone know what part that is. I think it had something to do with the back or tail end. Not sure.

Found it on web. It is "the last part over the fence" that is that tail part attached to the back that has the sex and excretory organs of the chicken. That little flat tip sticking out on the behind.
