An ushtabi. I got it at an antiquities dealer. Quite small and unobtrusive, but thousands of years old. I like holding it and thinking of what this small item has seen and experienced. It looks a lot like this:

I keep it displayed under a glass dome on my bedroom vanity. I also have a piece of silk embroidery she did...it is very fragile.

One of the stones in my collection is over 2-1/2 billion years old, stromatolite, the oldest thing I have but I'm pretty partial to a 17th century Tibetan prayer box. Both were given to me as gifts. I also have a fossil of dinosaur dung (copralite) I got for my birthday years ago and an ancient shaman's feather necklace. Wow. I've gotten some pretty awesome gifts now that I think about it. Thanks!

There's actually things OLD-er than me in my home ..
I've got an Antique Buffet Service Cabinet/Dining Set ...
(which is older than .. )
Cameras that I had inherited from older-relatives when they passed away ..
and the Sofa is definitely an antique (along with other things)
just about everything is something I purchased along the path of life ..

Amazing, love your description of holding and thinking of what it has survived I do very much the same,I wonder why the item was cared for and by whom,my house is a curiosity shop,I avoid Malls they bore me.........................

The items in Malls tend to be soulless. Plastic is formed by machines and does not bear the touch of it's creator. Handmade things are special, the have a tiny part of the maker's soul in them. It's why Navajo weavers throw heartlines into their rugs.

agree wholeheatedly, you wouldnt believe the items I have found at estate sales with penciled dates, explainations on yellowed boxes, these were part and parcel of someones life,I use care not to disturb how they were left,I consider myself a keeper of their treasures, until I am the one leaving penciled notes and such behind.I really get the feeling someone appreciates my caring for them does make sense?!Love the heartlines, wonderful..... navajo doll vintage

Really hard to answer, we are collectors who love antiques. My guess would be mid 19th century.....maybe furniture, maybe jewelry, maybe books.
