    You worded this wrong. Technically the answer is once.

    Had you asked the question by adding "repeating the action until it can no longer be folded again in half" the answer is 7.

    I've heard about 7 times. I remember there was a program on TV where they tried this on a piece of paper the size of an aircraft hanger and they still could not fold it more than about 7 times. The thickness of the folded paper goes as t(n) =t(0)*2^n which quickly becomes unmanageable for large n no matter how thin the paper is.

    I believe it's eleven. I remember MythBusters tested how many times a paper can be folded but they didn't use their hands for that one. I think they said by hand a paper can be folded 11 times..
