All of the above, plus additives like cheap fats and sugars, like trans fats and corn syrup in processed foods. Processed " foods. " Wayyyy too much sugar in the diet. Sugary drinks like coke.

Probably for all the reasons given.

The problem is that sedentary lifestyle, too much stress, hardship and highly caloric junkfood or all prepared dishes contain too many unhealthy lipids, too much salt, too much sugar and often rather questionable additives and components.

The big food industries are not much concerned about health and fair trade - first comes the profit - although some progressses have been registered.

If some of the big Hamburger and other food Companies would adapt their ingredients with varied wholemeal or wholewheat bread (much better than white bread), diverse baked or cooked (instead of frying) natural vegetable and meat compositions, including fruit compositions, and avoid to add too much salt, unhealthy grease and sugar, they could certainly have a big impact.

Furthermore, there should be more opportunities for everybody to practise diverse sports, because regular exercice is very important.

but these are just a part of it. It can be genetically induced, (As in the gene which would decide weather you are health conscious or not). other reasons can be, laziness (Very important....because being lazy not just to exercise but even to avoid putting any efforts in preparation of a healthy meal and instead just by the push of a button having junk food delivered to your doorstep)

All of the above. People are obese for different reasons, some because it's inactivity, others because they just can't stop eating. I do think America's food sources are tainted, and the food that's readily available, and doesn't spoil easily is filled with sugar, fats, and salts, which make them addictive, and unhealthy. Not to mention all of the processed foods, and genetically modified proteins we have.

Too much sitting. For years people ate food with way more fat than what is in it now, and there werent near as many overweight ones.

Lack of exercise and bad diet. Fast food and/or junk is everywhere. Plus with today's technology I think no one really exercises anymore.. especially younger people.

I think all of the above are major contributors to the obesity problem in this country. Also fast food has been a problem for years.

All of the above really.....I eat whatever I want in moderation and that works well for me. Have lost quite a bit of weight that way. :) And, I don't eat fast food at all anymore.

All of the above, and we see A LOT of weight gain as a side effect from medication where I work, too.

Good point about the medication. I took one med for my fibro and it made me gain weight. Got off of that quickly.

it's not the food, it's the inability to control one's urges (defer gratification) and the environment kids grow up in. My parents ate right, told us to play outside, etc. I rode my bike 3-10 miles every day until I got my license. I didn't gain weight until I got married. but still not terrible. 6' 1" @ 195. I don't exersize like I should but I also eat healthy... I make home cooked meals with fresh foods or food I canned (green/wax beans, beats, cabbage, pickles, tomatoes, pears, apples, applesause, etc.)

I build a massive playground, they have nice bikes, pond to swim in summer, ice skate in winter. One daughter is in soccer and the other ballet.
