To block someone is rather childish because of a reply that doesn't agree with their comment. Is this an open forum or just one sided?

It depends on what the response was, now I don't generally post obscene responses but just like yesterday someone post a photo of the president in a Hitler outfit with the killer mustache, hair, etc..

If that was my post, I wouldn't want that scumbag replying to anything else. I have for the most part a high threshold for tolerance, but I will block a hate mongering deliberate swarm by the right wingers.

That's just cowardly. I love to have a decent exchange with an opposing opinionator. But I will not tolerate being gang-banged and abused. I'll put up with a lot,however I do have a line which when crossed I will block the abuser. Sorry Foxhound. I have only blocked about five in two years though. One was a psycho sex maniac, the others were just intolerable bullies and gang bangers.

Frankly my dear I don't give a damn. With over 6 million folks on this site or at least registered, and they allow blocking that is going to happen. I have had it happen a few times, I just move on. There are plenty of wackos on most sites so one less moronic comment to deal with is alright with me.

Their prerogative (yes that is correct spelling, I had to look it up). I've had it done many times for that reason. I don't do it myself though, because I agree, its an action that shows fear of discussion and a closed mind.

I block people for various reasons. If someone blocks you for the reason you gave, that is their choice. I tend to enjoy the repartee of people who disagree with me, but when they choose to continue to not listen to reason and fact, then they are just a mosquito to me so I remove myself once I've had enough of their idiocies. I have a lot of real life friends with whom I disagree, but we do so with well thought out logic and agree to respectfully agree to disagree. It's difficult, though, to respect a lot of the positions presented here and in real life.

I get so sick and tired of Christian Conservatives and their unwillingness to listen to reasoned rational arguments, disregard for science and desire to impose their religious beliefs on others, that I often just block them as soon as they get obnoxious.

Oh well. It's not something I trouble myself with. I base an opinion, and if somebody doesn't like it, that's their decision. It's actually better for me for them to ignore me, then to keep saying rude things to me. Better for everyone for that fact.

Fair enough. However, if an opinion is not based on fact, shouldn't it be challenged? Opinions often change because facts are introduced to cause the person with the opinion to at least think about the facts and reconsider their opinions. Being unable or unwilling to budge from an opinion does not make us better people. It makes us dogmatic, and dogmatism is never a good thing.

The problem isn't facts always... but people who won't keep an opened mind, even with facts. I believe I deal with too many closed minded people.

If a person is abusive, uses sexually explicit name calling, trolls simply to harass with character assassination and abuse but never posts an opinion he/she/ needs to be blocked. Why waste your time with the brainless answering the call of other brainless to spam and swarm!!!

Definition: Sarcasm be used to hide someone's true intentions, or hurt someone else by veiling an insult with a compliment.
