Swimming pool drains. Seriously, **** those things! I've hated them my entire life. Combine them with deep water and they seem even more menacing. I hate them in shallow water too, but not as much (I'm not actually afraid of deep water, I swim in 300 foot deep lakes all the time and love it because I can safely dive into them. I don't know why I'm scared of the drains but I am. I know how they work and what their function is, I also know that they really are not a threat to me, but that doesn't matter. I can't look at them, swim over them, or touch them. I love swimming, but every time I get into a new pool, I have to walk around it first and check were all of the drains are. I have at times been happily swimming and suddenly had one looking me in the face... they give me a heart attack every time.
It's not like this is a fear that has a negative impact in my life or anything (unless I decide to become a pool man and have to replace drain covers), but it's real and it's strange.
I also will not swim in dark or dirty pools. I have to see the bottom. I have friends who love to swim at night with the light off. I refuse to get in.
Other than that, I'm perfectly normal (and a very strong swimmer).
