My first time on an escalator was in a department store in Phoenix Arizona. I don't remember the name of the store, But it was a favorite of my mothers,,,,

I don't remember my first escalator ride, but I am afraid of them! Watching me get on an escalator at the mall is very similar to how the man acted in this video, lol.

What a hoot, I was a toddler

Bamberger's in Newark, NJ. Christmas time with my grandmother. We took the bus downtown and it was mesmerizing. They were wooden and made a specific "clakedy-clack" continuous whirl. Back in the late 50's "Bam's" and downtown Newark rivaled Manhattan for its Christmas magic.

I do remember my first time on one of those rolling walkway things at the airport.... stopped paying attention... Boy... you only do that once! But... I met a really nice pilot while helping him off the floor... Had a pretty good time that night...

I do remember i was at the carosel mall in san bernardino california and i tried to walk up one of the steps because i was left alone my mom was goin after my little brother and i slipped when i stepped up and sliced my knee open and the escalator man stopped it and put a bandage on it now i am scared to go on them :^(

If I recall correctly, I liked stairs better for some time til I got into the colors of the escalator and realized there's a lot of 'tricks' you can do on them and forgot all about loving stairs.

The memory is vague and I was very young in a store in Germany with my father. It was on the same shopping trip that my father bought a TV set and we became the first family in our apartment building or maybe even the neighborhood to have one.
Also I will never forget using the escalator in the Tsum Store in Bishkek Kyrgizstan and finding out that they had an escalator attendant who's job was to sit in a chair at the top of the escalator and monitor everyone's safety as they rode it, and that was just a few years ago.

Escalators never break, they just become stairs!

I am fighting the urge to yell at him to get out of the damn way!

i'm old enough that i think that stairs had just been invented. maybe that was dirt--- been so long.

If I recall correctly, I think I was confused between the bumps on the escalator(s), the size of the steps (optical illusion I guess), the force and I'd feel: I'd rather let those people that get on them get old; not me, confused.

but...LMAOOO

I wanted to go to any store that had an escalator. It was just too fun!
How about an elevator??

A redneck family is visiting a big city for the first time.

The father and son are in the hotel lobby when the spot an elevator.

"What's that Pa?" The boy asked.

"I ain't never did see nothin' like that in my life" Replied the father.

Seconds later an old frail woman walks in the hotel door and hobbles to the elevator. She presses the button with her cain, waits for the doors to open and gets in.

The father and son, still amazed by this contraption, continue to watch.

They hear a ping noise and the doors open again. Out steps a beautiful 20 year old busty blonde.

The father looks at his son and says "Go get your Mama !"

That was really heart warming, I noticed how patient the by standers were. And took him by the hand and walked him through it. We should always take time to help others out.

That's why I'm glad for the county I live in. People have helped me.

I have the memory of a gold fish so unfortunately no. I probably cried though (I was a whiney child)!

I rode my first Escalator at a hospital and it was.......Scary, I was much younger and hated the thought of it. I cried, Looking so crazy.

The weight when it carries you up and you're to know when to get off is even harder. I slipped at times that I'd curve over or lay on my stomach on 2 steps there at times til I could understand it better.

I agree. I was like Oh my god when do I step off or I wonder if I will fall off, that would be super embarrassing.

I couldn't have stood there as long as he did and just tried it either. I would have turned away.

I know right. He was mighty hesitant.

I don't remember my first escalator ride... I live near London - the underground has loads.
But I do remember still being nervous every time until I was about 7! I think I always had to jump on and off

The first time I rode an escalator, I was VERY young. I don't remember freaking out or anything.
I just remember my Mom saying "step" and we went up and she said "step" and we got off of the escalator.
She did the same thing when we went back down. But nothing ever happened. So I suppose I was short enough to the Earth so the gravity didn't throw off my balance much. xDDDD


As for this man. The video put a smile on my face and I don't know him, but I honestly felt this weird proud sense. haha. I know I'm weird. But, that was nice. :) It's like a metaphor, when something new comes your way, give it a go.

I was about 12 when I first used an escalator. I lived on an I Island up until then, not much call for an escalator on a single story building that was the main store :)
