Here's proof that a simple two-weeks notice just doesn't cut it anymore. Joey, who had been working at the Marriott Hotel in Providence, Rhode Island for more than three years, decided it was time to quit his job -- and he wanted to go out with a bang. Quite literally.

With the help of 19 of his friends -- who just happen to be members in a marching band, mind you -- Joey walked right in to the hotel entrance, handed his boss a resignation letter and firmly yelled "I quit!"

Then, the amazing stuff happened. The marching band let out quite a performance. Trumpets roared, drums banged and cymbals smashed as the band loudly made its way out of the hotel. All in a day's work, we guess.

You'll have to watch the video for the full effect. But with the Jet Blue guy's epic "I quit" moment and now this, we see a trend surfacing among disgruntled employees.

Do you think this is one of the best ways to quit a job?

Pretty funny. Years ago, my brother worked in a very busy restaurant/deli in DC. It was incredibly busy one day and he was prepping veggies and his boss was being an ass. He spelled out "I'm outta here!" with sliced peppers cucumbers and tomatoes and got the hell out of there. No worries, he moved on to bigger and better things.

Ordinarily I would say no...obviously not if you worked for a nice employer...but just 5 seconds of video of that manager proved that Joey did the right thing.
Another thing was the sign that said, "This department has worked _ days without a lost time accident." It seems like whoever calls in sick at that place, gets humiliated publicly.
I worked at Aetna and any time you called out sick you got an "occurrence" even if you had a car accident. After 5 "occurences" in a year you were fired. Its the same thing with this place, they just call it "lost time accidents".
Some companies treat their employees like garbage, and use cruel intimidation techniques to control them.

Good luck in the future buddy if you ever decide to try to get decent employment in the future. Most decent employers do extensive background checks these days.

Yep. if you watch carefully the boss says "you better never come back here, Get out!!" Seems the boss didn't like him much but couldn't fire him for cause. And you will notice too that the boss refused to accept his resignation. By doing that he on camera the boss just made himself liable for paying the guy unemployement. Laughs of the Boss.

I hope he linked it to his facebook page as well, for his next employer to see. Dumb kid, You Tube is the best candidate screening site ever. Can't wait until he is depending on a job to support his family, and when he asks why he will not be getting that job I hope they turn the computer screen around and say "I don't know" and then the band plays.

How do you know that he didn't already have a new job when he quit? How much do you think this lousy hotel job was paying him to be treated like crap? You go ahead and live your uptight republican jerk life of assuming the worst about everyone and encourage your children to sell their dignity as cheaply as possible as good little mistreated drones to enrich robber barons for less and less wages under worse and worse conditions while short sightedly slandering anyone who stands up. See if they don't wind up with nothing but a sore back and blisters as their father licks the shoes of the people who stole all of the nation's wealth, left the treasury broke, and kept unemployment just high enough to keep cowards like you scared enough to do nothing but mutter "thank you sir may I have another" as they depress wages, eliminate benefits, and let conditions deteriorate. Some of us have more foresight than that and will resist now before it is too late.

Ha! Ha! What a PROVEN FREAK! . . . NO assumption here. It has been written-out. You state "live your uptight republican jerk life of assuming . . . " and not only THAT assumption made by those words, but everything else stated is based on pure-assumption . . . Do you mean that you didn't even notice THAT?

Lets see: Tresspassing, defacing public property.... yeah I would of called the police.

What about all those people paying good hard earned money to stay in that hotel, who since its night, could of been sleeping! Should they be incovienced by this person?

He had an opportunity to work to earn money, what more was he asking from his employer?

Wouldn't it of been better to sit your boss down, give him a two week notice letter, train the new employee or give them time to find someone else, and say your exploring other employment opportunities because your current arangement is not working out?
Now he's burned a bridge and lost a reference!
This will be the same guy complaining that he can't find a job and asking the government what they intend to do about it.

a--hole bosses are a part of life, you can still do the right thing and leave with dignity.

What would you rather have, an a--hole boss and a paycheck or no boss and no paycheck?

We don't know he didn't have a new job when he quit. And leaving with 'dignity' really depends on ones own view of dignified.. is it dignified to allow someone to treat you like garbage?

This attitude is why unions are necessary- too many people think it's okay to treat employees like animals- and that employees should accept such treatment- it shouldn't be that way!!!!!
  • Shae moonchild 2011/10/19 16:57:16

    Unions aren't the solution.
Unions can also slow a company down from advancement and keep those who don't put in their fair share employed.

Your work history follows you, when it comes to finding another job (wether he had another job lined up or not) this could come back to haunt him.

I would still call the police for vandalism (the girl changing the sign, OSHA rules) and tresspassing.

I'm sorry about your dad, your right, another job would of been more beneficial to you in that situation.

But I still feel a two weeks notice is all that is needed, not this show and dance.

It would have been better to give either a 2 week or 30 day notice without being flamboyant. I worked at much worse jobs than working at a hotel and I never did that. It will come back to bite him in the future. I've quit many jobs myself and I don't blame anybody for quitting a job they don't like, afterall work is about a 1/3 of your life but there are better ways to do this. HINT: I'm speaking from personal experience when I was younger myself.

In other countries, you show up and do your job, and usually you have no problems. Americans are different, as they exploit the fact that.... your job = your survival , and if they have a personal dislike for you they can make your life hell.
It can get pretty nasty when you have someone who is young, good looking, smart, mayb that kid was attending college and intends to be someody in life and not some supervisor in a hotel, and that guy, older, fat and balding who isnt going anywhere else but that hotel.
Jealousy comes into play and they make your life hell. Ive lived it and seen it happen to others.

aww come on. you cant say that wasnt funny. and really, they didnt deface any property. and it wasnt exactly tresspassing since they did leave right after. :) now if they walked through the hotel doin that, then yes that would be tresspassing.

Who are they to come on to someone else's property and grandstand?
Why are they above the employees who are doing their jobs or the managing staff who keep them employed by keeping the hotel filled or the customers who are staying at the hotel?
    It was immature and selfish.

I wouldn't care. It would make me laugh so i wouldn't be mad or anything. Look, you're talking to a girl who couldn't care less about what people do say or think. If they wanted to quit like that, freakin let them instead of getting your panties in a knot. What is immature is how some of these people are overreacting to this little thing. Get over it. It was funny, haha, some laughed and whatever. If you didn't like it TDB.

From an economic standpoint and a business POV would you want to lose customers over a guy who's looking more for attention then caring about tack.
