Was your dad protective of you?

Well, it was like this: when I was seven years old our Mom left one day (fighting her own demons, no doubt), and he fought to retain custody of my two siblings and me, when the State of New York thought we might be better served if we were split up and taken by three foster families. He won that battle, worked a day job and night job (at the Thomas' English Muffin Plant) and we moved into his parents' home until we were twelve. So far: the Best Italian–American Papa there ever was (though being first-born and male did perhaps give me a somewhat priveleged vantage). He told me much later, that he had made a promise to himself. He promised himself that he would not ever say anything bad about our Mom. That could not have been an easy promise to keep, although keep it he did.

he still is. Whenever I go somewhere, he becomes worried.

My dad avoided me for the most part.

Even in his death :P haha. I just didn't pay attention when I should have! Tried scaring my ex fiance out of my life, but it just made him scared of my bedroom doorhandle because it was jiggled all by itself. & I'd like to assume he killed himself to protect me, my sister & my mother, from his manic depression. Because I sure as hell would most likely be a more hateful person if he had stuck around to influence me some more...

Unfortunately, my dad has issues - he is only protective of his money. Not that I would ever ask him for anything

Only when we were a the beach. He would set us up a "wading pool", because I didn't know how to swim. The rest of the time, I was at the mercy of my older sisters and brothers: that's when I got my worst injuires! And I have the scars to prove it!!!!

on most things, he would let me learn from my stoopidity...and other times it was obviously my fault so he wouldnt defend me :{

My dad decided that a new family in a new country was the best thing for him.

And I'm grateful. He encouraged me to fight my own battles, and he let me lose by myself too; but, he was always there to encourage me to keep fighting the fight.

OMG when boys came to pick me up my Dad stood in the yard with a shovel and an intimidating look! At the time I was terrified now I LMAO at the memory,my sweet Dad is gone now,if yours isnt love him just the way he is.

Still is. It can be a bit suffocating at times (you almost feel like you're trapped in a bubble, if you know what I mean), but I know that it's out of love. I'm just glad that nowadays he's making an effort not to be such a worrywart. :)

my dad had 3 daughters. and wasn't protective of any of them in terms of the people they dated

I was his youngest daughter out of 9 kids. Yep!! I was lucky to be able to go to school without incident.

Hell no and to some extent I resent him for it.

After he found out I was a girl, a.k.a, after I was born, he started collecting guns. <=)
I think a lot of dads who find out they have daughters get the urge to start doing that, but most of the moms convince them not to. 'Course, once they start dating, there's not a force in the world that can stop them.

And so were my two big brothers! Made it kinda hard to get dates......lol

I am his "little girl" But he doesn't go overboard. He doesn't ban me from dating, or going out at night because he trusts me and he knows I'm not the type of person to do bad things. He does get protective sometimes, but When he does I know he means well.
The one thing I don't understand is that he won't let me wear makeup because He says I'm pretty as it is and I don't need to change everything.

Your dad might just think you really are pretty. I have 3 daughters and 1 of them doesn't wear makeup. She's 30 and very naturally pretty. My other 2 daughters wear makeup. Of course I think all my daughters are pretty, makeup or not.

He wants you to stay young for as long as possible,he knows you will be a grown up for a long time,your Dad has wisdom,treasure him, my Dad is gone.........
