As a kid I liked them but now, it's like "meh." What's the big deal? So there's Wii and more? I really can't into it. Oh well.....

I play periodically, and I love them. They are a way to work out my anxieties and anger, and they challenge me and they are a way to bond with my husband. We are building a world in Minecraft. It is so fun.

I don't think it's a waste a time. It's a great stress reliever for me. I have been playing games since I was 8. I am now 27 and don't plan on quitting anytime soon. It is just a hobby I like to do. There are some people who just stop playing video games because they found another hobby they like more. There is no harm in gaming unless you game wayyyyy too much and not getting anywhere in life.

What matters is what you like, not others. I feel the same way about my tastes; it's best to focus on what works for me.
    Thanks!

I'd rather cook, iron or answer Soda Head postings than play video games.

Are other hobbies(fishing, bird watching, etc.) a waste of time?

I dunno. I don't do any of these things. That be something that only you can answer for yourself. For me, video games are a waste of time.
    Thanks.

they can even be a good way to tell if sombody likes you if they let you play with them they like to the extent depends on the game

After the game is done, what in REAL LIFE has been accomplished? Did you improve your personal relationships, increase your social standing at work, improve your financial status, gained any useful real-life skills? If the answer is no, then it's been a mindless, fruitless waste of time that you will never get back.

That's so true. I agree. I am not a gamer, and haven't been in 30 years. I know men my age that still do, but all my female friends stopped being into it a long time ago. they just moved on....

If it relaxes you, then that is what matters. For me, it does nothing since I was 14 and hasn't in decades. It just doesn't.

    Thanks.

That's a popular one. It still is. If it is a relaxant for you, then that's what should matter. What some posters put about moderation is correct. You know what is best for you regarding moderation on anything.

Most people spend a long time sitting in front of the TV which involves no interaction at all. Some of them have the nerve to call games players sad.

The brain is far more active during game-playing than it ever is in front of the zombie box. Games can have positive affects on the brain's ability to generate independant thought (NO, not just thoughts of violence) so people who prefer TV have no business having such a negative opinion about people who have "commanded armies and conquered worlds"

  • L1 strange... 2012/06/14 19:10:28

I don't hardly ever watch TV ( news if ever kicks my fancy), so that's a moot point. If anything, I spend too much time working nights at the hospital and could use a real vacation.

I have the nerve because that's my opinion and my poll. If you disagree, that's your choice and your business. Your problem, if you see it as negative; it's my freedom to have my own opinion. Isn't that what SH is about? Opinions?

If you don't like it, you are free to ignore the poll.

    Thank you.

I was referring to the "some people" who think that playing games is sad, not people who request opinions on the subject. On the subject of TV, I don't even have one in my apartment. I get my news on the web.
  • L1 strange... 2012/06/14 19:29:18

I don't think it's sad; it just a waste of time for me because I can't get into them anymore. I know men my age that still play them. I just can't anymore. I'm not 14 anymore.

I have a TV for my DVDs and that's it. I watch the news when I have time.

Sorry if I came off as harsh; I know people have a right to their opinions too, but I do too, and that's where it came from. Plus, I thought you were implying me without directly saying so; thanks for clarifying that.

Playing them was something I outgrew. I do not know nor have any female friends that play them today; they have moved on to other things.

    I just prefer outdoor stuff.
